For those planning to go this fall I have few questions about the Commerce program.

1. Have you ever heard of or know a person that started their extracurriculars in grade 12-last year? Would it have any weight on their PSE or is it just a weakness?

2. On the PSE, it states that the need to know any "extenuating circumstances, beyond your control, which have affected your academic performance over the past two years". Is this refering to the Top 6 or do they check all of your grade 11 marks.

3. Would I need Accounting Gr.12 in My Top 6 or is Economics, Int Business, Biology, Data Management, Calculus and Vectors, Canadian and World Politics good enough?

I'm planning to apply next fall so any reply would be really helpful especially about my planned Top 6 next year.

Thanksexclamation

1. I think it would be better if u start at least some things during your earlier grades and carry them through ur gr12 yr. This shows commitment.

2. I assume they are talking about all marks in general.

3. I think they only require 5 marks, including gr12 lvl math, calc, english, and 2 other core subjects. I don't know if Data Management and the such can be considerd as core subjects. If they are not considered core subjects by queens, then they can't be used. I dont think accounting is considered a core, either. As far as I know, cores include: English, Soc St (and related), Math, Sciences (bio, chem, phys), sec language. You can check their website to make sure.

I know people who listed a majority of final year extracurriculars last year on their PSE and got in. I'm assuming that the admissions officers check mostly for the caliber of your extracurriculars (i.e. leadership displayed, time commitment, achievements), not so much the year in which they were completed, so don't worry about only listing grade 12 ECs.

This would be referring to both your grade 12 and grade 11 academic performance. It's my understanding that the admissions officers look much more closely at grade 12 marks, however grade 11 may be considered slightly if necessary. Either way, this statement is simply asking you to mention any circumstances which have negatively affected your performance in grade 11 or 12 (personal sickness, death in the family, etc).

(Updated: thanks poppy1337) Your top 6 must comprise of your top 3 courses as well as U-level English , U-level Calculus, and one other 4U course in Mathematics (in Ontario). Thus, you don't necessarily need accounting in your top 6, but you must remember that English, Calculus, and one other math will be included.

Hope this helps!

Not quite sure what that pertains to. Did you receive a mark of 80 or above in English?

Really helpful responses from everyone here. I have one last question on my mind.

1. If I completed 4 classes of my Top 6 during 1st Semester, is it possible to send my marks for the 5th class during midterm/final as normal and the 6th course marks during summer school? Can't they look at my grade 11 mark to make choice ahead of time?

Any ideas? Thanks big grin

I'm not sure if I'm understanding you correctly, but if you are inferring that you will be taking summer school this summer to hopefully comprise one of your Top 6 marks, I don't see how that would be a problem.

If however you are meaning to take summer school during your grade 12 year, it is unlikely that the admissions officers will take that grade into account, as the selection process will be complete. Hence, you will have to try and comprise your Top 6 of courses taken during the regular school term. Offers are made on the basis of receiving a minimum 87% average of your Top 6 grade 12 courses, so while grade 11 may be considered slightly, they will not make a choice based on them if you have not completed your Top 6.

The deadline for early admissions is May 1st. I'd try waiting until after the deadline.

i started doing extracurriculars like half a year before i applied to queens. Mainly because i didnt know the importance of it since i was attending school in China.
But yeah i mentioned that in my PSE and i was accepted. i had good grades though.

Im still waiting for pre ivey though, much harder to get in i heard.
but cant get my hopes down.
anybody know when the admission for ivey ends? do they send a mail or email?

Hey Draco,

Ivey's offers get sent on a rolling basis. The majority of their offers have been made already (>50%), but there should be more coming out depending on how many have already been sent out, and how many people accepted the offer from Ivey.

If you get into Ivey, you'll receive an email with details for accepting your offer through eZone. They also send out a formal package in the mail after they send you an offer.

The last possible date you can hear from Ivey would be May 28th, which is the deadline for all of the university offers/decisions. May be different if you're not an Ontario student though.

Best of luck.
