madisonz wrote:1 I don't know her grades... she like.. won't tell anybody. At all? That's so weird. I have about an 88.5% average on OUAC for my grade 12 grades so far in my Top 6, but my school is not semestered, so I'm doing all 6 of these courses together and all my marks are midterms so far. My marks are lower than yours, Madison, but I feel confident in my PSE and essay. Hopefully we can both get in!
You guys here make me laugh.

They all seem like really nice, smart and happy people. I honestly can't stop thinking about how awesome next year is going to be, and I don't even know where I'm going yet!
And Cdoodles, it's OK. I get amazing marks in math, but I'm sure you could destroy me in something like English (URGH...like I tell my teacher, I really do not care what the significance of X is and what it represents). Combining our crazy skills, I'm sure we'd still make a pretty mean awesome soup LOL. It's all about just using your strengths, and that's why I applied for science as opposed to arts. what you just talked about is called synergy

v CONGRATS! That's so exciting and I'm really happy for you! Hopefully I'll get in, but I'm not banking on any sort of early acceptance. I'll keep the updates, though. and Madison - grades are their top determinant, according to the admissions website. Erm..
You guys here make me laugh.

Honestly, I handed my documents in at the last minute so I'm not hoping for an acceptance for a while. I'm still optimistic, but know realistically that I probably won't hear back from Queen's until like late April or something. Congratulations to everyone who is getting accepted!

I've been accepted to all schools except Queen's now. This is getting frustrating! I might actually just go do Trent-Queen's and end up with the Queen's degree anyways. What do you guys think?

What do you guys think? What level do you want to teach? You need consider your undergrad degree as well as your B.ed. What do you think you want to major in, and eventually teach? For example, if you intend to teach high school drama, Trent will not likely have enough courses specifically to complete a drama major, but Windsor which has a drama program would. Take into consideration which has the best undergrad academic program to meet your goals. Hopefully you will get into Queen's.

I am going to be majoring in math. I want to I/S level. Anywhere I go will definitely have enough classes to major in that, and generally all universities look like the math courses they offer are the same (except some of the bigger universities offer some more interesting math courses, but the requisite ones are still the same). In that respect, they all seem the same. I don't even know what the difference is!

If they all have similar programs, then just make sure you like the campus. A friend is at Trent and loves it-very friendly.

Yes, I'm aware I'll need a second teachable as well. I'm not entirely sure which I'll be choosing, but I'm pretty sure it'll be French (just because it helps to increase my chances of getting a job, and I don't really care what I teach as long as I'm teaching). That said, there is a slight chance that I may change my second teachable to chemistry merely because it would be easier for me to do chemistry classes than French classes. To me, French class is like a whole other language (hahaha!) but I like it.
We'll see what I end up doing. I have not yet visited any of the campuses, but from the pictures and videos I've seen Trent is definitely the nicest of the four that I've applied to. I'm really a fan of the river running through a forest concept that they have there. It makes me feel like I'm at a cottage 24/7. I think I might end up there.

Go to the university which has the best program for you, and the one which you feel most comfortable with. That being said, don't give up on Queen's!There's still three more months of acceptances going out! Hang in there. I know the waiting is tough, but it's Queeeeen's Don't do anything yet.

pumpkin wrote:Congrats! Have you decided where you are going yet? Not at all. It's so hard to choose! Here's my dilemma: 1) Nipissing - Only 4 years instead of 5, and they have more placements (which sounds great). Also, I have some family here. Natural Beauty (big one for me). Free tuition. 2) Queen's - Free place to stay and a car to go with it. I have a feeling I might have to work harder here too, and workload is something I want to reduce if possible (of course I'm always willing to do the work that's necessary, I just want less necessary work if that makes sense ). Queen's is also more prestigious for international work. 3) Trent-Queen's - Natural beauty of Nipissing with the good reputation of Queen's (since I still am getting B.Ed from Queen's). Free tuition. 4) Windsor - Detroit has a lot of entertainment stuff. They give more scholarships than anywhere else (better than free tuition). I can get the scholarship back if I lose it for a semester in the next semester. Crap university otherwise from what I hear. So overall I don't know where to go! Opinions? Lots to think about! Windsor is really a hole. Your intended teaching subjects are math and french or science right? Which school offers the best program in those areas? Maybe look at what extracurricular stuff each school offers that you might enjoy.
Nippising is only four years? Is that because the BA is an ordinary degree(3 yr) and not an honours degree? If so, be aware that the salary structure/grid for a teacher with an ordinary degree is less than an honours degree (4 year). In order to get to the upper end of the pay scale you then have to get honour specialist qualifications over a summer or two after you have a few years teaching experience-and it will take alot longer from a 3 yr year degree than if you have the 4 yr . Something that seems insignificant now, but can be a drag later(my mom is a teacher)..the salary difference is quite significant.
Also- see which boards have been hiring over the past few years. Choose teaching practicums in those boards if possible because the connections are critical. No point really doing all your practicums in a board with little possibility of job openings/retirements coming up in a few years. Ask your current principal for advice-they are usually in the know about which boards are growing.

Well, I only have 5 12U marks so far, but here they are:
Advanced Functions - 99 Data Management - 96 Education: Leadership and Peer Support - 94 Biology - 90 Chemistry - 94
AVERAGE SO FAR: 94.6%
Also, all my grade 11 marks were 90+. I also had a lot of really good and relevant EC's (DECA club president, working as an instructor at the community centre, running my own forum to help people get through rough times and volunteering at a day care for 125 hours, in addition to some others that aren't as relevant).
I submitted my PSE and supplementary essay for Queen's on like the last possible day, so that does not have very much to do with it.
