YES! A grad trip is so much more worthwhile.

Well couldn't you have done both? I'm going to Montreal for 5 days and I'm going to prom. Spent about $80 on a dress that was on-sale and the prom ticket is about $85. I'm planning to spend about $600 on the trip. So the total is just under $800.

see that's reasonable (the dress..unless it's an overnight thing i don't get why prom tickets would be anything over 40 dollars). what i had issues with was the fact that people were willing to pay several hundred or over a thousand even for a dress alone. i just find that ridiculous

I don't know how much I'm going to be spending on the dress yet, probably in the 200-300 range. Hopefully I can pick something up at a designer outlet store. I want awesome shoes, though. My mom promised to fork over some cash since I didn't go to any of the semiformal dances.

Anyway, that's what I'm thinking will happen, but as prom gets nearer, I am realizing more and more how over high school I am. I mean, it's four hours of mingling, eating and dancing, and then getting drunk off our bums, and I'm thinking I don't need to spend $500+ to do that.

CNAT WAIT TILL MINE
i have da hottest dress eva!!!

omg why do you have to write like that. you don't sound very intelligent when you do that.

actually most of the people who are criticizing prom are current university students who have already had their prom. or they're current high school students who are smart enough to realize that spending hundreds of dollars on one night that will be completely meaningless in a few months is pointless.

consider the amount of money you'll need for university and blowing a lot on prom seems stupid.

b/c i liek writing liek this and in fact i am ralli smart for ur info
w/e its once in a lifetime so go crazy right
and i am going on a grad trip 2

BLEH. I plan on going to my prom- but not really THAT excited about it.
Mind you, I still need to get a dress and everything.
I do believe it's over-rated,
but everyone should still go! smile The more, the merrier.

You can get a heck of a lot more than just a TV for 3000 bucks.

honestly i will never understand people who pay huge amounts of money for dresses like that^. if i saw someone wearing that particular one at prom i'd say they paid maybe like 300, 400 for it (and in pictures it'd be even harder to tell) but 4300??? that's just insanely wasteful. you could get a second hand car for that amount

If you can afford it, why not? People buy stuff like that for the same reason people buy Ferraris, Rolexs, etc.

liol i agree...the fabric looks really plain and only a really gorgeous body type would be able to pull it off to make it look anywhere close to $1000. i guess it's another one of those "inner comfort" things...If I bought any dress for over $200, I'd expect it to make me look insanely gorgeous no matter how fat/flabby i get in the future

yeah but with a ferrari and a rolex people can point to it and say, "holy noodles that must be worth a lot of money".

that dress honestly doesn't look worth even a thousand dollars. The only way people would say, "holy noodles that must be worth a lot of money" is if you tell them it is. and then that kinda defeats the purpose

I'm sure certain people would know. It's like buying an Armani suit, your average person might just think it's a nice suit but a trained eye will know it's worth thousands.

well you're probably not going to find a lot of trained eyes at prom. in fact, with the assumption that at least 50% of the graduating class will be drunk before the after parties even begin, you'd be lucky to find a clear eye at all lol

Yeah the people with dates are getting corsages. Even some of the ppl w/o dates are getting them from their parents

I bought my prom dress last week. It was just over 200 bucks. Definately more than I wanted to spend on this event.
