Just curious, were you in the Catholic school board?

Bordeaux, where did you get this idea about Catholic boards being way easier?

LMAO, there seems to be a whole lot of sensitivity here about that question. Go back and read my question Future, where did you see me say anything at all like what you just asked me? I have to laugh at how many people jumped though. Hmmmm...food for thought.

I took IB so there were very many students in my classes with 90%+
Not all IB classes are like that...
Mine had four kids with 90%+ (one kid that got over 90 was in the regular stream).

I applied for 5 so far...or at least that's what I remember off the top of my head. If I looked it up it might be more. I intend to apply for more later as soon as I can (some of them are for my college and I can't apply yet). I hope to apply for more next year.

Are there any other sites other than studentawards that offer info on scholarships?

scholarshipscanada.com

Or go on Google and search and you can find scholarships, as well as sites listing scholarships. For example, my school website has a special listing with scholarships not listed on this site.

I applied to 30 scholarships and have won 15 to date. Well worth it!!! Start early..apply to ones you may not even qualify for as if others do not apply, you just may win, and it happened to me!

How do you apply to stuff that you don't qualify for? Like a minority one?

I actually had applied for a sports scholarship (a sport that I have never participated in), the criteria was also for community service, academic excellence and leadership. I ended up winning the scholarship of $1000 which I assume is due to a strong application and (I also presume) that others did not bother to apply. You never know.....but certainly worth my effort!

Although you are taking quite a risk. Putting in all that time for potentially nothing. It paid off for you, but I personally wouldn't take the time to fill out an application for something that I don't qualify for.

A list of what you guys applied for would be much appreciated.

Because

we all know studentawards doesn't have all of them listed. (and the ones that they have listed, have a lot of competition)

I applied to 37 and won 17 and was a finalist in 3 others. The more you apply for the more you will win.

Are there any major scholarships in Canada that focus primarily on academic standing? (Not including entrance scholarships at specific universities.) I'm talking about scholarships which can be used at any Canadian university, for example.

I applied for everything that I could possibly do in the time that I had (which wasn't very much in grade 12). The ones that require just essays and filling in info as opposed to getting reference letters are usually the easiest, at least I found they were because my references tended to be fairly busy and to let them know ahead of time that I needed a letter. Try to not do them at the last minute too, because some of them need to be there by a certain date, not postmarked by. I misread it last year and it was for a major scholarship, so I had to send it by express mail and rush to get everything on time. It was quite a hassle.

Anyway, overall, I applied for 20-30 scholarships. They ranged from local ones (your school website, provincial education website or guidance office are the best places to look for these), major scholarships (like Millennium) and scholarships that were specific to the schools I applied to. I ended up winning $46,800 in scholarship money. $500 was from a random bursary that I filled out an application for online (took me about a half an hour). $300 was from my high school. $18,000 was the President's scholarship from the university I currently attend (always fill out the general scholarship form for the universities you're applying too -- this puts you in eligibility for a ton of scholarships and bursaries!). The other $28,000 was really lucky -- it was for a major scholarship offered by a big local company that was for the neighbourhood I lived in. Not many people from my neighbourhood go on to university, so I really lucked out.

I'm super annoyed right now because the leadership scholarship for my university, whose application was supposed to come out in late August, came out nearly a month and a half late. And they only extended the deadline by 2 weeks. So now I need to try to get the application and 2 reference letters done in the middle of midterms, when I would've much rather done it during the summer when I was stress free.
