I think many of the people on this forum do, but not all.

I applied to one and won...twice (oh, that was a pad attempt at a pun - ignore me).
I'm a lazy butt and couldn't be bothered to do anymore.

Quite a large percentage do, and most of us are very actively involved in various extracurricular activities or volunteering, or both.

The percentage of people who have 90+ averages on here do not correlate even roughly to the percentage of people who have 90s in the average high school. I wouldn't be too discouraged, there is just a high concentration of ambitious/intelligent people here.

For example, at my school and in my grade, only about 2.5% of all people have a 90+ average (and even that is a school record). And they announced that only .5% have an average above 95. So if that is a good indication for other schools, then generally people with 90 averages are quite rare.

where did you go to school?

My graduating class had around 10 people (320ish was the graduating class size) with 90's, but most of them were in social science classes, where it's relatively easier to get a 90 vs. a science course (at least at our school).

Unless eco's class is some sort of highly enriched/competitive/advanced class or something of the sort...that is definitely not representative of most schools.
My high school is the largest English public school in Montreal and we had a grand total of five people with an overall of 90 or higher.

Just curious, were you in the Catholic school board?

How are Catholic schools different (in terms of education) from public schools?

Side note: I think that most schools, to some extent, inflate marks for their students to get into university.

Catholic schools aren't necessarily easier, I don't know where people get that idea from. Only around 3% of my graduating class had 90+ averages, and they were pretty smart. I had a 98 as my chemistry midterm mark, and my teacher told me she had to reduce it to 93 on my OUAC account because 98 was way too high for anyone to get in the class. From what I've seen, catholic education is much harder to get a higher average in.

I completely agree; I think public and catholic schools are, on average, equally difficult. There are always some exceptions, but to the extent where the majority, let alone 90%, of the class having a 90%+ average--thats insane. Definitely mark inflation/compression.

PS. I go to a catholic school--only 2.5% of our class has a 90+ average. I think that is an appropriate percentage, one that represents the common catholic and public school system.

That is ridiculous. No wonder one hears of people with 90 averages failing or just getting by when they get to university.

Bordeaux, where did you get this idea about Catholic boards being way easier?

Wow. Excluding the gifted class, I don't think there was 1 kid with a 90+ average...including the giftees it was about 3 or 4 with 95%, and about a dozen with 90+...

For me I don't even want to know how many scholarships I applied for...

It as in the TDSB, just a specialized program, very tough to get into, everyone deserved their marks. They would have been the same or better in regular stream. Some of these kids are geniuses (that def doesn't incldue me lol).
