I don't know, but I have a question for the general group. Are there people without much work experience? I am finishing grade 12 this year, and I have basically no work experience. I am trying really hard to get a job this summer, but I am not really sure. I have less than one thousand dollars, and I haven't really spent a lot of my money either. Any suggestions for me?

i dont think working affects your osap b/c osap is a government loan that you will eventually have to pay back, regardless if you work or not

I think working in the summer may affect your OSAP. A girl I worked with had to quit her job because she was making too much and her OSAP payments became decreased.

You can either A) join military reserves and go away to a training course for the summer; B) fast-food... they'll take anyone; C) Clothing stores; D)Office work, if you're bilingual or E) other local businesses, depends on your location. Your parents may know someone hiring and this is a great way to get a job. Sometimes the hirer may not want to get a first-job worker but will take someone he/she knows and trusts anyways.

Another option is to look into the SEED program (Google it). It's a government sponsored summer-job system for grade 12 grads.

If you have limited job experience, banks are a great option to earn money and learn a lot. Try going into your local branch and talk to a Manager of Customer Service who hires customer service reps.

Working during the summer does affect your OSAP funds because they ask you on the form what kind of money you have going in. It also depends on how much money you have made so far that year and years previous I believe. I went through this hassle last year and its really bad because it depends HEAVILY on your parents salaries ( I don`t think they take into account what taxes take off their salaries which screw a lot of people out of OSAP. I know this because my parents make decent money but the tax bracket they are in only allows for so much take home which is required for living costs and not a whole lot for post secondary for my sister and I). Your OSAP also gets affected my your RESP`s or RRSP`s your parents may have taken out for you. Just a warning for everyone planning on applying for OSAP be careful what you wish for. You might get a big NO

I'm pretty sure that if you make money during the summer, and if it's a substantial amount, OSAP does take that into consideration.

Then you won't qualify. You need to make five meaningful posts to qualify. Read the rules.

OSAP asks you on the application what money (if any) you will be making in the summer before your course starts. That's an honest and fair question - if you're able to make money with full time hours but want to party for the entire break, why should they loan you money?

I should hope the forums' staff are doing their jobs and ensuring the contest is not won by someone who spammed five posts for some free money.

of course. i'm guessing they check the selected winners to see if they've got the legitimate posts, but all the same telling the guy that their post was irrelevent after the opportunity for them to change/improve it is a bit...unhelpful?

Wait... don't you get less money if you work? So technically if you do party, you kind of benefit?

No, because you have to work off that money later, its a loan, not a bursary. Also, interest may kick in = more lost money. It's easier to work when you have time to now, then when you might not later. Also, the amount your loan will change will probably be less tahn u'd make.
