I'm also a Jane Austen fan. I also really enjoyed the Twilight series- slightly cheesy but a fun and easy read.

I would definitely recommend reading the Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, it is and amazing book, a must read.
Also Night by Elie Wiesel, it is kinda a memoir of the Holocaust. A thin yet very powerfull book, you will enjoy it!
and read The Book Theif, i haven't read it yet but i heard its amazing!

Hey,
If you enjoy learning from books as well as a great stroy check out Diana Gabaldon's series. She writes about the life of a woman who steps through the standing stones in Scotland and goes back in time. Don't worry, it isn't all sci-fi, it's a historic/dramatic read...
The first one is called Outlander. Check them out, you'll be glad you did.

As well, if you enjoy comedy/autobiographies there are a few interesting books written by James Herriot(pseudonym) about his life in england as a verterinarian.

Happy reading!

Twilight, New Moon and Eclipse are probably my favourite books.
They are all written in a way that allows you to identify with the characters.
Definitly worth checking out!smile

Khaled Hosseini's books Kite Runner and Thousand Splendid Suns are amazing. I also read Memory Keeper's Daughter which was a great page-turner.

I litterally just finished reading The Mayor of Casterbridge by Thomas Hardy. Let me tell you, the man can really create a character! I had not planned it at the time, but the themes of this book tied into subjects I was covering in Psychology and Social Studies. It takes place during the Industrial revolution in Great Britain. Of course psychology ties into all books, but this particular book was a real in depth study of one man psyche. I would recommend this book to anyone, it was a real vocabulary enricher, if you like that sort of thing. Oh ya, my mom said that you usually have to read a Hardy novel when you take an English Lit. degree (she has one).

I noticed that a couple people already mentioned Twilight, but that is an amazing series. A bunch of my friends are just getting into it now due to all the hype about the movie version that is coming out in December.

I also really enjoy The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. It's a very cute series.

My favourite classics would be The Outsiders, To Kill a Mockingbird, and Of Mice and Men.

Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini was good, but I found A Thousand Splendid Suns even better.
Also, The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks smile

Is anyone here obsessed with Twilight?? A bunch of girls at my school are in love with a vampire called Edward. I haven't read the books but apparently they are REALLY good.

omg, so many ppl in my grade are obsessed with the Twilight series, and apparently they're making a movie for it.
I haven't read it yet, but yeah....
Personally, I am a HUGE Neil Gaiman fan, I love his works. They're fantasy, but not like old-school dungeons-and-dragons fantasy, but like newer, more creepy? strange? interesting books.
I'm also a fan of John Irving's books, they're great, although they are huge and sprawling.

the only people i've heard praising it for the most part have been squealy 14-16 year olds who haven't read any good works to compare the twilight series to. People i've heard from who have read the books and who i'd trust with good judgment and literary appreciation have said that it's poorly written, and caters exclusively to that 14-17 year old female range, you know with the whole perfect vampire guy doting over the average weak girl so that every girl who reads the book will think "Omg! liek I can be her too! omg! I <3 you edward cullen!"

i'm not interested in reading it. there are many books that i haven't read that are better written than this, but hey if you're looking for a substanceless fantasy it might fill that need.

I go through a thing where I am in love with certian authors. Right now I like Sarah Dessen, Libba Bray and Scott Westerfield.
Sarah Dessen- More teen love books also two of her books were combined to creat teh movie "How to Deal" with Manyd Moore
Libba Bray- Has a trlogoy set in the 18th centuray. Its kind of sci-fi but set in a New England all girls school...definityally a good read
Scott Westerfield- Has a ton of books leaing more towards sci-fi but he does really good with his description

Exactly the same.

I recently broke up with Salman Rushdie, but Orhan Pamuk is here to mend my heart.
Dostoevsky is always there on back and call though and Woody Allen to contrast Dostoevsky's sombre character with ridiculous essays.
