Hey, just wondering how much you guys pay for your cell phone plans, if you have a monthly one, and what kind of phone you have?

At first I had this:
250 anytime minutes
Unlimited evenings and weekends after 9PM
(125 text messages
Voicemail
Caller ID)

And it was $30 for the plan + 6.95 for the system access fee + $0.75 for 911 fee + $11 for the bundle of caller ID, voicemail, and text messages
= approximately $55 a month

I am way too broke for that so I called Rogers and haggled down to the following:

250 anytime minutes
Unlimited evenings and weekends after 8PM
Free caller ID
Free local Rogers to Rogers calls
(Voicemail
125 text messages)

And now it is $20 for the plan + 6.95 for the system access fee + $0.75 for the 911 fee + $11 for the bundle (it still saves me money even though I get called ID for free)
= approximately $44 a month

I am going to call back later and get down to about $30 a month hopefully, by getting rid of the bundle and getting text and voicemail for free if I talk to someone nice.

Just wondering what you guys have as plans.

I'm not sure what plan I have I know my bill is around $70 bucks a month though.
haha I broke my cell phone recently while I was under the influence and I currently
have this major piece of crap loaner phone.

Has anyone had a loaner phone from rogers before and how long did it take for them to fix it?

I don't know how much I pay, around $50-60 though. Unlimited texting... a necessity! Thank god my parents pay for my phone. I don't work a lot lately and I seem to either put my money into savings for uni or go on wild shopping sprees. smile

I have an old-ish Motorola Razr (two years old so far, absolutely no problems). I'm surprised with the durability... I thought it would break easily but I drop the thing all the time, even in like huge puddles of water and it's fine.

Really? I love my Razr. I've messed it up plenty of times and it still works like a charm. I have a friend who dropped hers in a toilet and it still works fine.

I have a KRZR and it does the job. I'll probably upgrade to something a little more sophisticated for my next phone, perhaps a Blackberry or iPhone.

i dunno why but it kept getting frozen...so i couldn't even turn it on b/c it would just stop in midst of loading of main wallpaper and just turn it back off by itself.
i'm never getting another nokia phone again!mad

You have a plan that doesn't suit your needs and you use it way too much?

I pay about 55$ a month but it can go very high depending on long distance calls etc. I can't wait for the day when I have a landline, I don't even really wnat a cell phone, I can't stand it when people answer in the middle of dinner etc. Its so rude. But maybe I am old fashioned.

wow.. how did you manage to hagger it down that much!? what did you sayy??
my plan is a discounted plan already but it includes so little stuff, it's $18 + the 6.95 + 0.50, so a total of $25.50 minimum each month, but i also text (pay as you go) so that's always extra and sometimes i go over on minutes. razz so typicallyy, it's around $30ish per month. my plan includes: 200 mins per month, free weekends (no free evenings).

ps - any tips on how to get free text msg-ing? razz

utsc next year!

My monthly bill is ridiculous.. between 100-120$ and I'm stuck in this contract for another 2.5 years. I have a blackberry and it has literally everything except for long distance and US roaming. How does everyone else pay for their monthly bills if theyre on a plan? Do your parents pay it for you? Mine definitely won't. I wasn't thinking when I signed this contract, that's for sure.

my plan is basic basic, 50weedkay+1000wweekend minutes, that's it, and it sorta sucks that i have to be EXTREMELY careful to not exceed the 50 minute mark. my first 5-6 months were horrible, the bill ranged from $90-$300 (the $300 was due to stupid me going on the internet...), but i managed to get it down to $31-$51/month and that's what i'm paying now smile

(I'm with Rogers...the worst customer service EVER, btw. It's totally true. Because I'm not over 18, the account is under my mom's name, so every single time I call Rogers, I need my mom to "verify" me so that I can talk to the rep, and since my mom is never home, I am never able to talk to them. The 4 times she has been home, she's verified me every single time, and every single time they have told me that I only needed her to verify me once before I am able to talk to the rep anytime in the future, but they lie because I still have to have my mom talk to the rep to verify me every single time I call. And every single time I call, I ask them why they can't just put my name on the account, and they said they did and that everything's fine, but the next time I call it's the whole verification thing again.)

Yes i pay for my own phone...I've never understood the concept of parents giving money to their kids for something they are more than capable of handling on their own. You want it, you pay for it. Simple as that. Asking my mom to pay for my cell phone would be like me asking her to brush my teeth for me, make my bed and get me dressed each morning, clean my room once a week and so on.

wow..I thought I was bad.

You HAVE to stay on the plan legally, or at least until you can afford to cancel (wait at least 1.5 years k?). What you CAN do, is confidently pressure Rogers people to take off features of your phone. I wasn't thinking when I got my phone too and they got me into a plan so my first bills were...

-$80
-$110

embarrassment

But I haggled a bit, and my normal monthly rate ($40-50 a month) went down to $25-40 a month. The reason the two bills were so high was because of the 'activation fee' (LOL) and the browser surfing (NEVER AGAIN). Hopefully my next bill will be around $60 at the most, since yeah.. there the credit card AND university to save for...

Great suggestion, fleur. Unfortunately I'm with TELUS. They're very reputable for their customer service, however I've never had any issues with the exception of a few texting and roaming charges from a few years ago and they were very co-operative with my problems. To cancel with Telus, you have to pay a fee of $20 for every month you have left remaining in your contract. The amount I would have to pay is close to $700 so it's not even worth cancelling in my opinion.

My parents warned me that I'd be responsible for paying my phone bill when I'm away at school just as I am now, and where I'd be getting the money to do so is far beyond their comprehension (they think I'm retarded for some reason). I figured I'd get a part time job. But still, the amount of money I pay monthly is ridiculous!
