Elgin and Med Syd I think are pretty far away from the main hub of the campus (as compared to saugeen) on the map. Is it a walking distance (e.g. about 20 minutes...since i tend to sleep in late and always end up rushing) or would i have to rely on the bus every day to get there?

also, has anyone who has lived in med syd (the girls floor specifically, or just any floor) know about the shared bathroom conditions? How many people is it per bathroom? and do you get keys or is it just open for anyone who happens to be on that floor (regardless of them being a resident there)?

The only traditional style where there is a bathroom shared for a few people is Perth, where two rooms share on bathroom. All other traditional styles share a communal bathroom on the floor.

this is a bit..unrelated i suppose but my parents are refusing to pay for anything regarding university if I go to Western. I need to have a residence deposit by a couple of days and I've only got a couple of hundred (around 300? of which 200 is owed to my mother) in my debit account and i've finished at my last job. I don't know what to do. I've emailed western and asked for an extension. I don't know if i'd be eligible for a loan though (and i'm underage so i'd need my parents to cosign it i think...but i think their anti-western blockade would encompass this). Has anyone ever taken a loan being underage? Maybe could I use my scholarship as a security?

^^What about asking them to loan you the $500 and you pay them back, or is that also covered in the Western=No Support policy? You definitely need to find a job either way ASAP.

they won't give me a loan. I can try asking my sister next time I see her. Western won't extend the residence deposit deadline either so I think that's the only option I've got between now and then and then I'll apply for a job in the meantime.
Do we have to accept our offer to UWO to fill out the residence questionnaire and pay the deposit?

Alright, a couple more questions about Rez at Western:
1) Is the residence deposit deadline may 25 or may 28th? i'm pretty sure i read it as being may 25 someplace but I'm just checking.
2) In the residence booklet they sent me there was a chart for 2008-2009 residence room and meal plan rates. it breaks it down into a couple of columns: -Fixed Costs (non refundable) which includes room charge and something called a meal plan overhead.
- then there's Meal Plan Food Credit Purchase (refundable) and it has stuff like 'residence dollars', 'flex dollars', and a total food credit ranging from 1655 to 2165. Are these additional funds that we get to buy food or are they the main things we get. what exactly is the meal plan overhead? and when they say 'refundable', does that mean they give you the money back (say if you spend 500 under the limit) or do they put it to next year?
PS on the food prices chart it wrote that 1 egg is 21 cents. Is that actually true??? (and at every residence, or is that only the cheapest residence). Because I eat minimally as it is---I usually have a piece of toast for breakfast, a granola bar and juice for lunch, and then have one main meal at around supper (something like a plate of spaghetti) with light snacking (fruit and celery, sometimes chocolate) throughout the day. With the prices that they wrote, depending on the serving size, i honestly see myself spending a lot less than what they have for the meal plans. (the meat options tend to be the most expensive and as a vegetarian that would likely decrease my costs)

The meal plan overhead covers staff wages, cafeteria fees (e.g. utilities), etc... so that what you pay for every time you buy food is the food itself. That 21 cents for an egg is essentially what you would pay for the egg if you were to get it straight from the egg supplier (actually, it is a little bit cheaper because of the university's buying power). If you eat as you say you do, then go for the smallest meal plan possible. If you don't go through it, then, yeah, they just let you push it on to next year (with like a $50 fee).
Hopefully that helps.

I think for a double room in a traditional-style residence it cost me only $7000... $9000 is getting pretty ridiculous. I can see why quite a few of you are considering living off-campus.

Why don't you save a couple hundred and try for Perth? Traditional style residence, with a shared washroom for two rooms, so like 4 people max. It's probably about 8700.

I'm having a hard time deciding hwo to rank my rez's. Style aside (doesn't matetr suite or traditional), which residences would u rate the highest and why.
btw i dont like delaware, its grungy, it doesnt matter if its close to everything.
I know many people have the "anywhere but saugeen" mentality. is this warranted? is it that crazy?
