I only knew of 3 people who actually requested the specialty floor, the rest (including me) were just randomly assigned to the floor. We weren't healthier than the rest of the floors - they spaced the athletes out pretty evenly. We had like 4 - 5 rugby players, a couple of girls soccer players... that's it (we were a floor of about 40). The majority were not on varsity teams, a few competed in intramurals.
As for the guys to girls ratio, on our floor this year, they did it every other suite. If you go down the hall way, it would be a guys suite, then girls, then guys, etc. The suites beside me were both guys and the suite in front of me was also all guys. It really depends though - in Saugeen, I know a floor that had 7 boys and like 15 girls.
Side note, the floor with the most football players this year in Perth was 4 South, I believe... they are not a specialty floor either. Thanks. 7 guys, 15 girls, that is a good ratio lol. What's anyone's thoughts on Deli though? I had it listed as #3, but the central location is really starting to grow on me. Close to classes, not that far from TD, is competition for Deli big? Like will I be assured if I put it at #1 I have a really good shot at getting in? I also heard that they have better food than Perth, and a party atmosphere similar to Saugeen but not as insane. It's starting to sound more and more like the perfect balance I've been looking for.

from what i heard, ALOT of delaware is music students....that has its pros and cons in itself, im not going to start listing them and risk offending people lol. but i personally put it at the bottom, right before alumni house. Its definately not the nicest looking rez, but the proximity makes alot of people rank it high, so I think it is "reasonably" competative.
I'm putting med-syd first...any current students know my chances? or any other comments on med-syd?

Deli is a pretty solid balance, and its location is definitely in its favour. I don't know the truth of it having better food than Perth (all residences are pretty much the same)... but Saugeen definitely owns in the food department (with all the people, what do you expect?).
It is difficult to say your chances, but Med-Syd is a pretty safe bet, Deli is a little more iffy (like Jake said, people rank it highly simply because of its location). Just don't get your hopes set on one.

I'm sure its frowned upon by housing and everything, BUT
if you find someone with the same smoking/alcohol/neatness preferences as you can you switch residences in august once u find out where you're going to be? I know housing wouldnt be happy & people say you're happy wherever, but is it at all possible?

So I filled out the rez questionaire and it asked you to rank if you prefer a particular type of floor, i.e. healthy living, quiet floor, leadership development. Anyway, if I request a specific faculty-based floor that is ONLY offered in Perth, and also rank Perth as my number one choice, does that increase my chances? I'm just debating between Deli or Perth as my top choice so I wanted to know if it made a difference ...

No I don't think so, the lottery is solely based on your ranking of residences. Based on which residence you get it will than go and look at your preferences if you were in that residence (life style floors).

so does every 1 rank saugeen low??? i think it is the only way to have a good chance at other rez's. since 1/3 students end up in suageen anyway.

You didn't say what you needed help with... but yes, it's true that suites have washrooms that people share with eachother. Is that supposed to be surprising?

Third floor. Although it was a pain in the rear a lot of the times, it was sometimes my only exercise. Alumni house also doesn't have elevators. All of the other residences do. That being said...I can't deny that I'm looking forward to elevators in Essex next year. (Watch me end up on the first floor...oy vey)

Care to share any experiences? Loved every minute of it. It was my third choice, but I couldn't imagine myself anywhere else. It is definitely very social - lots of parties. You can always find a quiet space, though. I lived on the quiet floor which was ideal - venture off to other floors to have a good time, and come back to my floor to sleep. The quads are beautiful - no other res has that. We even had baby bunnies during frosh week - adorable. Rooms are pretty spacious - you each get a closet/dresser which was really great. Communal living, so everyone has their doors open and people pop in at all hours - if you need to study, door is closed. I remember when I'd come back from class - my room was in the middle of the hall - I'd stop in to basically everyone's doors and it took me a whole lot longer to actually get back to my room. haha. The spirit at Med Syd is undeniable. If you end up there...frosh week is a blast. We're always so much louder than everyone else. It's fab. If anyone has specific questions, feel free to post it here or PM me.

when people say perth is far, exactly how horrible is it? i love the layouts but i hate the potential walking =S hoping to snag a degree in visual arts = art supplies is a drag.
also, does anybody know people on leadership floors? my parents are egging me to go there but i think everybody will be bossing everybody else around and it'll be bad.
really scared of getting in saugeen btw....will die in an unorganized environment.

The entire campus is small IMO, I'd estimate about 20 minutes from end to end, on a stroll. Perth is only about 2 minutes walk away from Alumni Hall, where you can get a bus. It's about a 10 minute stroll to the centre of campus. I was suprised on my visit how much ground we'd covered, because the map on all of the books make the campus seem larger than it is.

is winter walking rough? i'm actually considering finding far away res so that i can walk as exercise but when it gets slippery i bet i'm going to bus (horrible of me).
for washrooms, are there any in traditional that is like... shared but closed/private styles? i know queens has a couple where a bunch of rooms share but the washroom isn't a communal style; or is uwo all either communal or ensuite?
