oh..I see...

Do they mail it to you? or do it online?
also, is there a date you have to reply by or something?
I'm afraid of them revoking the offer of.. say, Perth hall...

from all impressions, it seems like the will mail it to you. no idea about confirmation replies tho sorry.

They will mail you a package in late July that will include your rez contract, a booklet about rez, a form to request anti-virus software (which everyone using RezNet is required to have), and your invoice. Your invoice will tell you which rez you have been placed in (since different residences have different fees).

You must send in your deposit (the full amount or half) by mid-August (they will specify the date) or they will cancel your place in residence (you will also not be refunded the full $600 deposit you paid in May). If you choose to split the payment in two, you will have to pay 1/2 your fee by the August deadline and then the other half in January.

For the person who wanted to have tea/instant noodles, electric kettles are fine in rez. We had a microwave and nobody said anything. I know people on my floor who had George Foreman grills and toasters. They covered up the smoke detector with a plastic bag so it wouldn't set off.

Coffee makers are not very popular in traditional residences because coffee is readily available in the dining hall + tons of locations on campus (Tim Hortons are in nearly every building). I know a few people who had them in suite-style, simply because there is more room (there are counters).

The Campus Cooler fridges are old and crappy looking, but they work. The one I shared with my roommate was one that a lot of people had and it was bigger than the ones CC offered. I would recommend buying your own instead of renting from CC unless you are from out of province (or flying) and don't wish to travel with too much.

Regarding internet conenctions in dorm rooms. Does anybody know if our type of connection will support the use of a slingbox? (viewing tv over the internet). It should be okay but I'm worried if a specific port that is used is blocked by reznet.

lol my dad has fiddled around with one of those. he offered me 2 take it but while i watch a show my family at home cant watch a dif show on the same digital box. i could split the cable (again) but the picture keeps deteriorating.

i can likely live without t.v. for a bit (i'll download a lot 2)

for sure give the resnet people a call.

It's a huge database that holds music, TV shows, and movies that you can download for free.

Hello. Just have a question regarding this email I recieved from the UWO residence department. They emailed me an offer of residence at Bayfield Hall which is located at Glenmore apartments. Now from my understanding and research, these apartments are offered to students who are supposedly "mature" or above 18 (as of september 1st). Now I'm 18 years old in August, which is just a month earlier... ffs. So I get moved to mature residence? I have no clue what to do and since they have given a deadline of july 16th, and stated that the alottment is on a first come first serve basis, I submitted, accepting this offer.

Any thoughts? What are Glenmore apartments like? Bayfield Hall in particular..........

Also, this offer is considered an "Alternate" to residence at UWO.... now is it really that different? And if so, does anyone know the cons? And say I wish to live anywhere else (On any "Residence" Campus), can I after submitting to this offer?.........

Thank you.

Yes I applied to normal residence. And no bigbadsheep, they said that its due to them having a lot more applicants than the space available. So anyhow, does anyone know anything about Glenmore apartments and the pros or cons, and if I can still get "Normal" residence?

Looking at Bayfield Hall, it seems pretty fabulous with your own bathroom/kitchen/living room. The only major downside I can see is that you don't have a cafeteria in your building so even if you get a meal plan you'll have to walk somewhere else to get food or make your own food. It's also very close to the main buildings on campus and the price is reasonable as well.

Now I wish I got one of these offers =( Paying similar prices for dorm rooms just doesn't feel as good.

Anyone know how TVs work at suite-style residences? When I went on my SAO, I saw some cable jacks in the living area and inside each room

pretty sure that u can bring a t.v. and pay for cable if you wish.

with DC++ you can just download your shows. many networks do live streaming online (cbc and tsn do it). also i think some floor common areas have t.v's.

so you have to pay for basic cable in the living area of your suite? I thought it was free..

I heard that uwo admitted about 200 more students than last year and as a result they have less space in the available residences. I personally wouldn't take the offer for Bayfield hall. Living in residence is more than just having a place to sleep and eat (although there definitely is no caf there, you'd probably end up eating at saugeen most of the time). Bayfield is not a western res with a soph team and council and I think that makes a huge difference on your residence experience. I don't know the details, but it seems like they ARE offering an alternate to rez which counts as being offcampus.

I don't think that receiving or not receiveing the email meens anything in terms of yours or anybody else's res placement.
To Bigbadsheep: Don't be too confident that you'll end up with your first choice, much less a single room. When I got my res placement last year, I was given my 5th choice and a double room. When I got there, I found out I was upgraded and I loved it so don't get your hopes up just for one res. Get excited about oweek and the awesome year ahead.

Yeah, they give the largest ballpark date ever; late July to early August... I really really really want to know! I check mail everyday (yes I know it's still early)

to the people who asked what DC ++ is. I was a frosh in medsyd last year and trust me you will have no need to watch tv over the internet. The downloads with DC++ are lightning fast (think upwards of 1.1 meg per second) so you get songs in less than four seconds, full movies in less than 9 minutes. I completely filled a 250 gig external hard drive with all my favorite shows (scrubs, seinfeld, lost, house) and every movie you can imagine. Once you get it you will understand, everything is on thee.
