I'm at Carleton University this year and Im in English. I absolutly love the school and despite all the terrible things im sure everyone has been hearing on the news I feel really safe here. All the profs i've had so far are really nice, but I definately suggest not taking 3 hour lectures unless your positive you can sit through them and pay attention that long.

I am highly considering it! I have been accepted to both Journalism and Public Affairs, although I will likely choose Journalism (and try to pick up a Political Science minor somewhere along the way!)

Has anyone heard anything back about the Carleton Prestige scholarships yet? And also, what are the tuition/res costs (double room, not in a suite or anything) at Carleton? The estimation they give in the book varies quite a bit. I'm just trying to figure out what would be a realistic budget to see if I really can afford to go there.

Your tuition depends on your program. The best estimate I got was 5081-6891$ and that was in the acceptance package. Just budget in for the maximum amount... that way if it's smaller then you get a nice surprise. Your room and board also depends on your meal plan, which is why the estimate was a bit screwy.

Carleton has 5 meal plans that you must get along with your residence. They include complete meals and ResFlex Dollars (food credit).
Plan A- 14 meals + 100 Res$
Plan B- 12 meals + 150 Res$
Plan C - 9 meals + 450 Res$
Plan D - not applicable to your situation (5 meals, 450Res$)
Plan E- 19 meals

The Res$ are separated in half, one half per semester.

Now room plans, traditional double room:
Plan A = 7247$
Plan B = 7137$
Plan C = 7112$
Plan E = 7582$
(Remember, you cannot take plan D unless you do elect to take a suite)

For more information, just go to the U of Carleton site.

Carelton is really funny. They sent me my Science acceptance package by express mail on like Jan 2nd. And then when I switched to Arts, they resend the acceptance package just as soon. I'm not really considering Carleton, but I would get 13,000 in entrance scholarship over 4 years, which is a lot more than anywhere else, which is really tempting.

Good luck to anyone who's going, though.

It is the truth.

I have a friend who was taking a tour of Waterloo back when he was looking at universities, and someone drove by his tour group and yelled, "go to Western." He did.

late but my first choice was McGill, where I got accepted. I guess Carleton was more of a sure safety school than anything.
