Mac just sent this out: Quote: This is a brief reminder that we will be informing you of our decision regarding your application to Health Sciences in early May.
In the meantime, if you have not had an opportunity to visit McMaster, we would like to remind you of our annual open house May@Mac, to be held on Saturday, May 10. Details and your official invitiation will be e-mailed to you in the next couple of weeks.
Good luck with your studies, and thank you for your continued interest in McMaster University.
I just had a heart attack because I thought I was getting a rejection email too o_o... But early May. yay.

Does anybody know if there is more than one round of offers for the BHSc program made after early May (in the situation where some people may reject their offer)? And if they do, do they look at your final semester two marks or stay with the midterms to give the next offers out? Hopefully someone here has an answer. Thanks in advance and good luck everyone!

I doubt it, because you have to accept by May 28th. I don't think they ONLY give out the exact number of offers and expect everyone to come, but extra spots could be left for the year 2 applicants, I guess. CAPS LOCK IS CRUISE CONTROL FOR COOL. The historical precedent (and by historical, I mean the past couple of years) has been to send a bit more offers than the 160 spots opened for high school graduates. The number for my year was around 300 offers and because so many accepted the offer (around 210), the BHSc office tapered the number of offers to about 220 or 230 to get 160 responses. The class of 2011, this year's first years, had around 170 accept the offer and there's been talk that the office really wants to be strict about the 160 enrollment number. I would not be surprised to see if they only sent 200 offers this year.
As for the number of applicants, my year was around 3800 while prevailing "talk" narrowed last year's around the same (3900). Keep in mind that many do not get their supplementary application read as their marks fall below the 90% threshold. I've heard that 2000 to 2500 have their supplementary applications read.
Don't stress. It's your last few months of high school. Enjoy those months while you can.

That's really strange. I had no idea that the percentage of people who accepted the offers was so high. I know a lot of people from my school who are set on going into business and have already gotten accepted to York or Western or Queen's but are just applying to Mac Health Sci as an acid test to see if they can get in (yes... odd but true). I also know a lot of people who have been wooed over to other schools by massive scholarships. I know about half a dozen people who applied but I'm pretty sure I'm the only one who's actually contemplating going there.
But like someone above said, if there are extra spots, I guess they can always be filled up in year 2.

Yeah universities will always send out more offers than there are spots available because they're expecting students to decline the offer. Of course with a program like BHSc, one would expect a high percentage of students accepting the offer, but I guess this is why OUAC asked us to rank our programs. I'm speculating that if two people had the same supplementary score with the same averages.. they would obviously take the student who ranked the program higher. On that note, I also know a lot of people who're just applying to BHSc "to see if they'd make it" and because it seems to be the meter stick for biology students in my school. Normally 3-5 graduates go into the program, so many grade 12s apply because it's "prestigious".

they're probably reading them and picking out hte batch they think are good. wait for the marks to come in and then select the ones they want to give the offer to.

Hi everyone! just a random lurker with a random (well, maybe not THAT random) question; how many of you that applied for healthsci also applied for artsci or lifesci? And, if you got into all three, where would you go? Pourquoi?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jf94uiIbItg

I would definitely choose healthsci if I got accepted into all three (I wish!) but I would be happy as long as I either get acceted into healthsci or artsci. What about you?

What about you? hmmm, I would definately go for artsci. When I was interviewed for the Loran award at McMaster I talked to a current student and the program sounded cool. The students are apparently really outgoing and and really random, original thinkers and that's totally what appeals to me. Pourquoi?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jf94uiIbItg
