The cost for tuition, books, transportation and other expenses is getting out of hand. It is so sad that people who have the burning desire for a post secondary education can not afford it and often give up because they feel their aspirations will never be fulfilled. Scholarships and bursaries are a great way of helping out those in need of a little or a lot of help with college expenses.

I completely agree. And contrary to popular belief, many scholarships and bursaries can be won by anyone, not just the exceptionally intelligent. Cause after all, shouldn't we all be given the equal opportunity to go to college or university if we choose to and work hard to get there?

They really do although a lot of students don't take advantage of this which is really too bad.

I have to agree. I'm a grade 12 student graduating in June and the cost of University is making my stomach churn. However, I think that it's a lot more difficult than most people think to get a scholarship. I've applied for about fifteen scholarships so far and haven't gotten a single one. It's really confusing because I have a 97% average, volunteer practically everywhere, play soccer, play the violin and piano, paint, etc... I think I'm a fairly well-rounded person, but it seems like all of the scholarships go to the 'best of the best' anyways.

Exactly! The scholarships do not go to well-rounded and highly intelligent people, like yourself (and others). They go to people with outstanding extra-curricular accpmplishments. Mind you, I have no problem with those people being recognized, but why is it that ALL the top scholarships are looking at (more or less) the same thing???

I'm much like you, enohp - same average, same extracurricular involvement, same problem. Unfortunately, there are more of us that we'd like to think. Most schools have at least one person who is extremely well-rounded. That's probably why those who do something unique get all of the scholarships - because there are just so many people like us, but less people who have one really big and exceptional thing.

Total Scholarship Earnings so far: $0... Gonna keep trying though.
