I think that when you graduate from a certain university, employers look at where you went and base that on how good of an employee they think you will be. It;s not fair and it needs to change. Any thoughts?

Although somewhat true, I feel as though some schools have a stigma attached to them like Brock 'if you can walk and talk you can go to brock'. A lot of people think its a big party school. I love Brock and I have been recieving an amazing education, I have had oppurtunities here through my program that I dont think many other schools could give me.

Unfortunately, that's the way a lot of things go in life. But hard work and dedication go a long way too. Graduating at the top of your class from a "second-rate" school is more impressive than just passing marks from a so-called reputable university.

I agree with Stringer; certain universities have better reputations because they are harder to get into. Clearly someone who graduated from Oxford University is going to be smarter than someone from a community college (and if the person at the college is actually that smart, they can go ahead and apply to Oxford. Believe me, it's not easy!).
Life isn't fair and some people are smarter than others. That doesn't mean their better - intellect isn't everything and a qualified plumber from a community college should definitely get the job over an unqualified Oxford grad. But when it comes to smarts, good universities deserve their reputation.

I think there was a study done a while ago.. on people who got offers from like the IVY league universities, but chose to attend some other university instead. The result, if I remember correctly, was that those people were as successful as the ones that did choose to go to the universities with better reputation. So, this goes to show, that even though reputation might matter to some degree, it's your abilities that'll get you further. Going to a reputable university *might* help you start at a point higher than the others, but really, at the end of the day, how much further you go from there will depend more on you, yourself.

I guarantee that going to Harvard instead of say Carleton in Canada is going to open up waaay more opportunities for you. Recruiters will be knocking your door down and offering you the moon.
