What are the chances that I will get into the residence of my choice?

I really want to live in Mills Hall, it's beautiful and convenient since Creelman Hall is right there. Johnston is lovely too, there's my second choice. However, I've heard that both of these residences are quite difficult to get into. Is this true?

If it comes down to it, I could live happily anywhere except South. It just looks so ... well, like a prison to be honest. lol!

Hahaha, south really does look like quite the rat hole... Nina said to apply to Mills and Johnson, but that South was pretty good. She said it's all about what you put into it. See you at school, Ms. Fieldssmile

I'm pretty sure they said that over 50% of first year students end up in South Residence. That fact in itself greatly discouraged me from pursuing the University of Guelph any further. I would really like to know what they were thinking when they decided to build those horrible caves.

They built south res atfer a prison to keep the parties and stuff to a minium, to keep people calmer. I want to go into a cluster, (the bio one) and I've heard that it is in south res frown I too want to be in Johnson. Is Mills hall the all woman res? Because if it if, it will likely to be ealier to get into than Johnson. If you so much as put south on your res form, you get in there, so don't!

Macdonald is the all-girls rez.
I'm probably picking Johnston as my first choise, and then either Mills or Macdonald. I know a few people who were in Mills & they absolutely loved it! My only problem with it is that it doesn't have double rooms (only triples or singles)

yeah, I'm glad to haer I'm not the only one worrying about this so early. haha.

To answer your question, I'm doing the Bachelor of Sciences Major for Nutrition Sciences. I'm excited. lol.

I'm definitely applying to Mills and Johnston. Lambton is nice too actually =) Basically anywhere but South. lmao. I mean, if I did get put there, no big deal. I can have a good time anywhere. But I'd prefer not to.

Do you get 3 or 4 choices for res halls on the application?

Mills is the hardest to get into, then Johnson.
I think the easiest way to avoid getting into south is don't apply for it.
You could always apply for the cluster (previously the aggie cluster, biosci, and I think commerce clusters have been in Lambton).
And I think you get 4 choices on the application, but you can apply to say
1)Mills (any)
2)Johnston (any)
3)Lambton (any)
4) North (any)

lol I thought they'd be the hardest to get into. They're the nicest, after all. lol.

Well if I do get stuck in South, I want a single room. But I could take any room type anywhere else.

One thing I'm worried about though. I'm a bit of a clean freak. I'm not an obsessive duster or anything, but I definitely can't stand clutter or messyness. Is it a bad idea to risk getting a roommate, in case they're kind of messy? :/ I mean, I could put up with it. But I'd have to spend all of my time (aside from sleeping) out of the room because I actually can't function when things arent clean. LOL.

South rez looks like a prison cuz the architect who designed it built large size prisons. The reason south res is so huge is cuz of the unique cluster room system. I dont kno if u guys have seen it but there actually pretty cool. theres four ppl per cluster and u guys share a bathroom and common room. plus the rooms are huge (at least the doubles). the only reason i wouldnt wanna b there is cuz its so far away from creelman ( iono the name but the really good lookin food hall). Plus parties are always goin on in those common rooms. i kno a couple buddies that got in there n they loved it. im thinkin of applyin to a cluster (biological) does n e 1 kno where that is?

If it bugs you now then don't do it. The messyness only gets worse at exam time and you are stressed and fights happen.

I talked to someone who was in the bioloical cluster and she gave me some good info about them. There is more than one cluster, normally one in south, and at least one more in the north res. If you want a sigle room your more likely to be in south res, were as doulbes are more likely in a north res.

I know I've asked tons of questions already, but as far as south residence goes, can you choose if you would like a paper room or a brick room on the application?

The paper ones looks pretty decent, but I'm not a fan of the brick.

Thanks smile

Hmm thats a good question, i would assume you could. I myself liked the brick rooms better than the paper, it just felt alot cleaner. It probably wont matter if you plan to put up alot of stuff on your walls like i plan to smile

From what I've seen of the South residence (having not yet visited it) it actually doesn't look that bad?
I would prefer a brick room tho ...
East appartments are my #1 choice

You'll be disappointed when you actually see it then. lol. Apparently someone said the double rooms are big, I haven't seen those, but the single rooms are like little closets. The ceilings are low, and the common room is definitely nothing to jump for joy about. It's like they stole one of those picnic tables from outside McDonald's and brought it in, and that's it.
They definitely did a good job at modeling it after a prison, it looks and feels like one.

Not that I've been to prison, but from seeing several prisons, yes, it does look like a prison.
All you need is the orange jumpsuits.

Are you applying to la maison francais or eco house? If not I'd caution you against east rez. I thought it sounded like the best rez when I applied, and it was really good, the only problem was that it's not really a first year rez. I got into Lanark and ended up with a fourth year roommate and a bunch of second year co-op students who were all close friends. It's very hard to make friends in east since it is apartment style and because people are in upper years they have made their own friends. East is a great residence though and you will meet a lot of exchange students as this is where they are housed.
