I believe my first year cost me about 17k, because i lived in residence.
Although, it seems a bit expensive, but it is worth the money, because you make so many friends in your first year, and its easier for you to get use to your campus.
How much debt do you guys owe now?

I think I'm going to owe about that much, maybe 16k
but yeah, I'm going to be living in residence as well.
At least until the 2nd year, when I might be going on an exchange, but who knows?

My first year is going to cost me about 30K, living on residence. That's what I get for choosing a private institution? Haha.

I'm not even sure, probably around $15,000. I'm finishing up 2nd year and have no debt and plan to keep it that way.

No point in asking anybody unless they live in Calgary. Rent varies greatly depending on geographic location.

My first year cost about $1000.00 for books, and I think it was $2700.00 for my program. I didn't bother moving onto residence since I live down the street.

Seems like it's the residence that usually just skyrockets the costs

my sister's in her second year now but i think her first year ended up costing her less than a thousand dollars.

She stayed at home rather than in residence, and her scholarships and awards and bursaries ended up covering much of the tuition. She ended up with extra money at the end of first year (as she worked) and then for second year she got her own place off campus with some of the money she had saved up.

Living expenses are quite a bit more costly than most tuitions in Canada. I'm only paying a bit over $5000 for tuition and books.

Tuition cost about $7000 for UBC first year business school (for an arts degree it's around $6000)

Books was about $500 (I bought a lot used and borrowed from friends, this is a LOW BALL estimate)

Housing cost about $7000 for room and board on campus (the best thing I've ever done, residence is a must for first years, go into debt, you won't regret it)

Total, about $15000 is safe. and you need beer money ;)

$5000 - tuition (McMaster Social Sciences, second cheapest program)
$5000 - residence (Single room)
$2850 - meal plan (Regular size)
$1000 - books

I paid about $8000 in the end after scholarships.
