Where can I find a good seasonal/summer job? I've already applied to a few, but since i'm off for 5 months, what area do you think is a good idea? Retail, tourism, foods... etc?

How about waiter? Although it is below min wage, you can make crazy $$ in tips.

Waiter is good, if you do manual labour something with a landscaper will make you crazy amounts of money.

waiters make below min. wage but more than make up for it in tips. i work as a cook, n the waiters i talk 2 all say on a good day they can make between $$14-25/hr . if your lookin for a job with a base above min wage, try applying at office buildings for temp work. landscaping pays well too, but that can vary depending on the company you work for

Try looking to see if your Provincial government has any programs that will help you find summer employment. For example, I worked in a program last summer and although all of the participants were still in high school, they worked at banks, government jobs, sales companies, computer programming jobs, etc. And obviously, getting a chance to work at a job that directly relates to your career interests would be an asset.
Also, in the Maritimes, call centre jobs are very popular for summer jobs. Most of them pay at least $10-$12 an hour (my province's minimum wage is not even $8 so this is a fair job for a student!), and it requires little to no skill. They're frustrating jobs at times but they pay well and usually have really flexible hours. I don't know how popular they are outside of the Maritimes, but it's worth a shot to look into it.
Good luck!

It never hurts to put in an application with FSWEP for jobs with the federal government. For future reference it is better to get it in earlier to maximize your chances of getting something.

i think most places will hire you for just the summer, fast food places are certainly desperate enough.
i work at Tim Hortons and there's quite a few people who work there just during the summer and depending on the owner, they're usually willing to keep your wage etc.

You could look inside your local newspapers. There are always job postings.
I think working in retail is very stressful as employees are always competing for commission.

Is there a hospital around you? Apply there for cafeteria, transport, or housekeeping.

Check governmental postings - they have some for students, like landscaping jobs or library fundraising. At least, they do in my city

If you're agile and aren't afraid of cut shifts and long days, you should consider a waiter job! With the tips, you'll do a lot of money, maybe enough to do an easier work the next summers (as I did)!
But, if you have no experience in a dinning room, I guest you would have to be an host or a bussbuoy first...
