it's tough, but it can be done! i suggest creating a homework/study schedule for yourself and trying to stick to it as closely as possible. if you can stay focused for your scheduled times, you won't feel bad about going out with friends a few nights a week. one of the most important aspects of university or college is time management, and once you have that mastered the rest will follow. good luck!

I gave up on a social life 2nd year LOL. Just kidding of course... Well, sort of. I find it a good idea to find others in your same program that you get along with to have study groups and such at regular times. That way its a double-whammy, you still get your work done, and you get a chance to socialize at the same time! Sounds pretty lame, but it works out!

Sure, read "The Game" by Neil Strauss and stop caring about grades.

Be open to University experiences..... not everyone is like you and/or comes from the same background, so there are bound to be differences. If you ignore the cultural differences and focus, instead, on the postive aspects of making a new friend, you will succeed at having a great social life at University.

I agree with some of the above. When you can study together with people, it is definitely more fun and you can remember more that way. But be careful - sometimes that is not helpful at all. Also, maybe join a club and get to know the people in it. It's a structured time to hang out so if you're busy, just limit yourself to that, just as you could a class, but if you're not too busy, then you can always hang out more. Some of the best experiences and days at university I have had, I did no work and made lasting memories. Although it is not possible all the time, take a break once and a while.

It certainly is difficult to balance everything.....especially working too. Find time to do a bit of everything...like designate a time just for school, a time to forget about school and mingle with others. No one can be serious all the time...we all need a break!

Yes I agree with what most people said. Really, you will be able to find your balance with experience. It can be tricky at first finding time to do school work while having a good time with friends but it can be done for sure! I find it great to work with people. Not always doing the same work, but my friends and I sometimes will just all work together in a big room and it helps us stay focussed and motivated when everyone else around is working too. We like to take study breaks to go outside for a run, or play football or watch a movie too. Also we usually go out friday nights to the bar, or to just party in res, and then we keep saturday or atleast sunday strictly as a work day so we make sure we can still get all our work done. The best advice I can give you is to not fall behind in your work, because if you do you'll find it much harder to try and get caught up and stay ontop of things. If you stay ontop of your work, while still having fun with your friends, you'll find the whole University experience so much more rewarding!

There are tons of clubs out there you can join, which are either very cheap or free! It will give you a chance to try new things and meet new people. It also gives you a social life that isnt too time consuming or expensive! Ive met some of the greatest people had some of the most fun times in the club that I joined, it has been one of the highlights of my university life.

Try to make a schedule as Kris said. Then you'll know when you have time off and when you can plan things. Try joining school clubs. Hang out at school and do your work. You will definately meet people there. Just randomly start talking to whoever is sitting around you. And well even if you dont have the best social life, at least your tuition is being well spent if your doing all your homework! And going to classes!

just go out and meet new people! try out for varsity teams for sports (if you're good at sports mind you), goto the bars on thursday nights (albeit don't drink too much) and go out on the weekends. Also try to play intramural sports and you'll realyl start to meet a lot of people but realyl the biggest thing is to go out with friends. You'll eventually meet some of their friends and they'll msot likely introduce you to them as well so you either find that you may end up with mutual feeling for one of your friend's friends or become really good friends with one of them. No matter what just go out there

It can be really hard but its important to maintain a balanced life. Take time to excercise, see your friends and take some breaks. Overstudying never helps with stress, just take it easy.
