Thats where I met all my friends who have big white, unmarked vans

Seriously though...if you can't even join an academic based forum without worrying what your friends will think, then they're not actually your true friends/you have self esteem issues.
Clearly, you're afraid of how your friends will judge you if they see that. If thats the case, I suggest you find new friends.
