You can run The Sims and The Sims 2 with either the latest integrated card (GMA X3100) and any discrete cards (128mb+ w/ shared memory up to 256mb or just 256mb is sufficient w/ shared memory) sneakyhobbit wrote:thanks (: is umm 1gb memory enough? or is that too little? Depends..will you buy a laptop with WinXP or Vista? if it's WinXP, it's enough if it's Vista, it's the minimum You can always upgrade the memory, just make sure whenever buying a pre-configured laptop, make sure the 1GB RAM takes up only 1 DIMM and not 2 DIMM so you can upgrade your memory with a 1-2GB RAM (if you wish) McMaster '12

I have Dell Inspiron 1300 and it's been working great for me for 2 years of highschool so I'm sure it will do the same for university

My Toshiba (Tecra) has been with me since the beginning of this school year and i have had no problems with it. It's fast, has lots of memory, can download and play movies without any odd stops or glitches, the keyboard is comfortable, the touchpad mouse is better than those little knobby things, has enough USB ports, a DVD (or is it CD?) burner/player, and the screen is wide enough without making the thing too heavy to carry. I'll admit i'm pretty computer illiterate yet i've never really had an occasion where i had a problem that wasn't easily fixable.

anniepoohh wrote:are refurbished laptops worth checking out? would they break again I personally wouldn't buy one, but that's just me. They're usually not much cheaper than a brand new one anyway.

I don't think a laptop is really necessary. I find that taking notes by hand is a lot easier!

What would be a good choice for me for university? I'd have it for internet, microsoft office, Conquer Online, iTunes, and sims. Also, I'd watch DVDs.

If you're paying >50K for school, in my opinion you might as well get a laptop that you can use for your 4 years without having to worry about it breaking.. I mean you don't need to go over $1500, but buying a $300 laptop in my opinion is just a waste of money as more than likely you will need a new one before you're done school.
