I'm thinking Dell just because I have a Dell computer at home, so it might be easier to sync everything. But I'm no computer whiz...

Your two computers being the same brand has no impact on how easy they are to sync together. Mac vs. other might make a difference, but even then not too much these days.

I have a Dell Inspiron and I hate it. I'm going to buy an HP soon.

Buy a MacBook.
They are more than worth the extra money.

I'm looking at some sort of Toshiba, I think... I've heard good things about them. I'd love a MacBook, but I can't quite justify the cost (one laptop for the price of two? Hmm).

A Macbook will last through university
A Toshiba will not.

I don't know yet. But really, any computer in the market will suit my needs (all I'm gonna need is run Office, MSN, and Firefox). I'm looking at lightweight 13.3/14.1 inch laptop.

You know, PCs don't just up and die. With the appropriate TLC (which I believe myself to be capable of administering) they can *shock* actually function properly for years.
Don't get me wrong, I love my iMac. But honestly, with the amount I use it, a $1200 computer is a bit out of my reach.

Is it worth it to get a macbook pro? I definitely want to go mac, but I'm not sure which one yet. I don't need it for hardcore gaming or anything like that.

Depends on what you plan on using it for. If it's just for surfing the internet, word processing and maybe watching the occasional DVD, no.

What sort of things will you need your MacBook for?
If it's just average student stuff then MacBook should suit your needs.
Though if money isn't an issue MacBook Pro is dope.

If your not doing anything hardcore (photo, sound, media) like that, your just throwing your money away. If you like Macs, a lowend Macbook will do just fine.

Edit: Also, if your looking to get a Mac, remember that you can get student discount if your a University/College student!

I want something that will last for a long time a not get out of date too quickly. Preferrably, I'd rather not have to buy a new laptop before the end of my degree. and yeah, right now money isn't too much of an issue.

ASUS without a doubt... they MAKE the MacBook's anyways. One of the most durable, best built, high quality laptops I've ever seen / had.

I have a 12" iBook G4 (2 years old).
I wish I had a bigger screen, but I'll get a new one when I graduate!
