Netbooks suck.

My advice: get the dell 15" studio laptop for value/cheapness

If you have a desktop, I guess it's OK. I really can't stand the tiny keyboards though.

Depends on what your needs are.

For me, a netbook is/was more preferable because:

1) Portability
2) Battery life (at least the one I bought... not all netbooks have great battery life)
3) I only use it for basic stuff (internet, office, video)
4) Cost (although I did end up buying a 1 TB external harddrive on top of the 160 internal which brought the total up to around $550)

The keyboard was a little bit awkward at first (even though it claimed it was 92% size of a regular keyboard) but after just a few hours it felt completely normal.

If your computing needs are anything above the most basic, you should probably go for a regular laptop.

This sounds appealing to me. How much does an average one cost?

You listed all the pros except low storage? Best netbooks these days have 160gb which is plenty for a mobile computer.
And look no further buddy I recommend the Samsung N120 which is probably the BEST netbook on the market right now!
And I do own one myself and its awesome with its 2.1 surround speaker the only netbook of its kind.
Plus tiny keyboards? This one is 97% full size. And prob the best battery life of 10.5hours which can LAST you the WHOLE day.
Here's link to it.

For me a 12" screen and normal sized keyboard is a must. Otherwise it would be difficult for me to use it as a primary computer.

You actually got 10.5 hours battery life? That site only claims 7.5 hours and those numbers are usually hugely inflated.

Yeah, you should NEVER expect to get the battery life that the company claims. My Asus Eee 1000he "claims" 9.5 hours, but on average it runs for about 5-8 hours depending on what I'm doing and what power setting it is on. 5-8 hours is still pretty great, but the point is that the "claimed" battery life is usually the absolute max you can squeeze out of it while doing bare minimum (like not touching it).

I read an article about the industry standard program they use for measuring battery life. It's done at 20% screen brightness, no internet, while the computer is doing absolutely nothing.

1. Netbooks are really small (if you're talking about the tiny ones that weigh like 3 lbs).

2. They have small screens (not good for watching..."stuff")

3. I doubt they're very powerful, so you probably won't be able to play games.

4. The only thing they're good for is doing homework and surfing the web. Entertainment is probably very very limited.

I prefer laptops. I'm big and the netbooks are too small for me. And I also watch movies and play Empire: Total War on it xD

Just for internet surfing, if you can get one with a decent sized keyboard, they're fine. The biggest draw for netbooks is probably the low price. The compact laptops (12-13") tend to carry a price premium. I still prefer something a little more versatile like a 12" laptop (sort of in-between netbooks and notebooks).

Yeah, same. Some word documents, MSN, and the internet is really all I use the computer for.
