Cause in highschool there was always a magic card table at lunch time where the weirdest nerds and geeks hung out. People would always chuck food and make fun of them.

Definately a social stigma with it, but only from people who don't know what it is mainly. Just like seal hunting has a social stigma: sure, it seems unusual, but in reality is great fun!
