Well, why not U of C? it might be far for some people, but it should be a good school for engineering, especially oil and gas. I mean Alberta is the 4th largest producer of natural gas and one of the two largest producers of petrochemicals in North America.

Its like, you realy have to know your character when it comes to choosing programs and universities I had the opportunity to go in to the best program in McMasters, but didn't since it doesn't fit my life For example if you want to have a normal and charm life then go in to UW and get in to a Canadian job (which I would do) rather than going in to UfT and getting sucked in to a academic chain saw. It is all up to you what you want when it comes to life desitions (okay it how much money you are going after)

Sherbrooke is the best university for enginnering. In Sherbrooke, we have a big internship program : you have to do 5 internships if you want to have your degree (along with the 8 classes semesters)! And the best things is that the University find the internships for you!

Only the top 30 applicants or so will have heard back (I think by the end of this week or next). The rest of you guys will have to wait until end / mid May. (I'm going to say May 20th is when 90% of them will be sent out).

1 to cos x: if i get on top of u we can have sec x wrote:has anyone here applied for u of t's engineering science program?...if so, have u heard back from them yet regarding acceptance? I applied there. So far, no reply. My average was 93. I've absolutely no intention of going there, however, being accepted there will boost my confidence.

Engineering science at U of T is like engineering at U of T on crack. Although I'm sure you'll have few problems with a 98% average and your load of extra curriculars, my brother's friend, with a 95%+ average in high school, went into that program after being accepted during the double cohort, but switched to electrical engineering at U of T in 2nd year because of the sheer workload (and he missed the partying ). I know this sounds dumb and oversaid, but it is honestly one of the most academically challenging engineering/science programs offered in all of Canada, or even North America.

so now there are some Waterloo engineers on the boards, would like to hear from them and why they think Waterloo is better - which it isn't ;) (please no random comments, back up your statements with FACTS)

I goto UW and have many friends in engineering at UW as well as UofT. From a quick survey, I'd say that graduating from UW offers better career prospects. Off the top of my head, I know TONS of UW engineers working at big name companies - Microsoft, Google, Apple, Yahoo, NVidia, Facebook, etc. Bill Gate came to visit our campus recently and he stated that, in many years, Microsoft will hire more UW students than any other University (including MIT, Caltech, etc.). I guess I'm talking about specifically software/computer/electrical engineering/computer science.
I have some friends that are in Eng Sci at UofT and they're doing really well also, but I'd say that a higher % of the UW engineers are landing the silicon valley jobs. I'd say a large part of this reason is co-op.

Sure Microsoft might take a lot of UW engineers but that's only Microsoft ( I think everyone really up plays Bill Gates too much). What about the EE's and CE's ? With summer Co-op at UofT now, I think UW's lost it's edge, the same jobs are available for both! UW might have the upper hand with its reputation as being a comp sci and software based university but with any other field I feel UofT can rival and beat what UW has to offer

Not many students say- hey, i want to work for SNC Lavalin or Magna. I'm not even sure what types of jobs are prestigious for an industrial or civil engineer or mechanical engineer. It might be because their careers are so varied. But you're right, I'm just talking about software-related careers.
