i have perfect grades (over 90%) but almost no extracurriculars and only the minimum of volunteer jobs...
you'd think that my grades, along with the fact that i'm broke and going into university then law school would give me something... it doesn't
i came from a country where grades are everything to a country where grades are nothing >_<
watch out immigrants... an immediate change of values is needed... too late for me but if i get the warning out there enough then maybe i'll save a few

I give an extra Woot Woot...Woot! I have found that looking through scholarships the help out with payments for school, that i dont have high enough marks, or participated in the right things. This one may not be worth a whole lot, but hey every little bit counts right!cheers

How many guys have entered the contest? I believe it is only little better chance than 649. Just a test to your luck.

Haha I agree with every single one of you! And it is hard being just average and not being able to find a bursary or scholarship that applies to you...its nice for contests like this to come along and help us other needy people out razz

Oh dear.... This is so hard... Why do we have to post 5!?!?!? I think my brain is going to explode! I'd rather write an essay! Does anyone have any advice on how to post 5 of these ridiculously hard posts?

Not every one of them is for the brains. And saying that these kids get the marks by cheating isn't true. I mean I get pretty good marks, and I never cheat. I think the only reason that they are essays and such is because they want to make sure they are giving it to someone who cares. If you really wanted them you would try pretty hard in order to get them. When someone is reading your essay they aren't going to know what your marks are, only the effort you put forth for the assignment they are asking for.

Well hey random chance is still better than having to have no life to achieve ridiculous marks so someone who did the same thing can give you silly amounts of money.

At least marks isn't a requirement for this, lol. Too many scholarships require "academic excellence", but they never define a cutoff average.

I like the idea of this contest because it is available to such a wide variety of students. When I started looking at scholarships and grants, etc. it seemed that the only way a person even had a chance at the majority of these awards was if they were the perfect model of a high school student; amazing grades, sports teams, clubs, volunteering, the works. Now, I'm not saying these students don't deserve to be rewarded for their efforts, because they definitely do, but what about the people like myself, the shy, uncoordinated people, smart enough, but far from memorable on the grand scale of high school perfection? Well, that's why I'm glad I found this contest. I just have to write and cross my fingers that I get drawn. The best part is my chronic invisibility will have no baring on the results, so I'm pretty pumped. Who's with me? rabbit Woot! Woot!

I totally agree with you.
I mean, I feel like there will always be someone better then you that will get the award or something. It's just a lot of competition and pressure these days.

This is awesome because everyone gets a chance to win. and it's great because for once you don't have to be all smart and work extra hard. it's always the same people who always win everything so it's nice to know we all have a chance here.

This is definitely a nice change of pace, much less stressful and doesn't make you think '...but what if I haven't done suchandsuch...'. So much to do, so much to do. Good luck to everyone! smile
