I like the idea of this contest because it is available to such a wide variety of students. When I started looking at scholarships and grants, etc. it seemed that the only way a person even had a chance at the majority of these awards was if they were the perfect model of a high school student; amazing grades, sports teams, clubs, volunteering, the works. Now, I'm not saying these students don't deserve to be rewarded for their efforts, because they definitely do, but what about the people like myself, the shy, uncoordinated people, smart enough, but far from memorable on the grand scale of high school perfection? Well, that's why I'm glad I found this contest. I just have to write and cross my fingers that I get drawn. The best part is my chronic invisibility will have no baring on the results, so I'm pretty pumped. Who's with me? rabbit Woot! Woot!

Woot woot I'm with you. I know what you mean. If I win an award at grad it would be for clusmyest student. I try hard at school but I am not the brain that some students are nor am i athletic (see above coment) so this contest is really exciting for students like us!

I love this, i mean yeah i play sports because i love them, but i can't hold close to a 95% average. the sad thing is that a lot of those "superkids" just cheat and get those grads and recognition because everyone bows to them cause they're "awesome".

It's nice for those of us how have been out of high school for several years. Many of the students who receive sports scholarships, etc. get these right out of high school. Although I did participate on teams, I had no desire to go to school after I finally graduated.

Yeah, seems like so many scholarships are only for people right out of high school. Now that we're older and out of the parents' nest and poorer, nice to still be able to get a contribution to the going back to school fund.

i agree that it seems that the only way to get some help is to be oddly amazing. it is great that some students do this but i dont know how they find the time and energy to do so. i want some of the food they eat lol

This contest will make no difference. Honestly what are you going to do with $100? But whatever, it's better than nothing.

Exactly, lol...And I have to agree with all you guys, a lot of the contest are for people with more than a 90% average...I can't pull that off...I work hard but im not a genius...Plus the only thing we have to do here is post 5 comments...How easy is that! I say Woot Woot to our lazy ass generation! lol cheers

I dunno how well I fit into this cause I may be (at least partially) one of those "superkids" you talk about, with grades in the 90's all the time and whatnot, and involvement in the community, and school clubs (although NEVER sports). Yet I still agree. It is hard to fit into all those incrediby picky, specific scholarships... and its even more depressing when you fit 19 out of 20 prerequisites!!! This is a GREAT idea... although it does seem sad to me that someoe who writes apathetic posts has just as much chance as someone who writes tons of useful, thoughtful posts...

I like the idea of this too. I'm one of the crazy ones who has no life outside of school... but I think it's great to have something that gives students the chance to express their opinions... and possibly get some money for it... without having to write a 2000 word essay. smile

I'm a little bit worried because I have been out of high school for two years and now I have to learn to manage time and work and studying again. I wonder if it will come back.

it will. my dad went back to university to get another degree after over 10 years of being out of university and into the workforce and he did terrifically. He also had three kids and was working at the time as well (so was my mom) so it's doable.

Look, another lazy kid hoping for a scholarship!

Lol anyways. Going back to school is doable. My mum did after... ages lets say. She was never the best student and she had problems getting back into the swing of things, but she worked her butt off and did great. But, As I said that was like, after 20 years or something ridiculous like that.

I learn to appreciate these contests more. When there isn't enough time to be writing essays, contests like this one can really help!

It is nice to have an easy way to win some extra cash. Way better than writing essays or getting reference forms filled out. lol.

Hahahaha. I kept on asking the same teacher for references since she saved my old letters and can just change it when necessary unlike other teachers who'd need to start from scratch. Plus, lots of teachers write very generic letters that scholarship officials (those people who decide if you are worthy of their cash) probably just scan it and throw it out.

I really like scholarships that are not based on school nominations because I feel the nominators don't really even know most people who apply. They just pick those who seem to have the best grades and who appear to work the most on paper. They have never really gotten to know anyone and these nominations are rather unfair I feel sometimes (also because there are so many deserving people who cannot be nominated because of the limit). However, the nominated are always those who deserve the nomination anyways, it's just that sometimes there are those who are more deserving (I'm not saying myself, but it'd be nice to get a nomination albino ).

Every scholarship should require people to put in some work and award appropriately. This one requires forum replies instead of academic merit which is nice for some of us who can't get anything else smile

I agree it is nice to have scholarship tailored to those who are not neccesarily super coordinated or charismatic. I know I couldnt kick or throw a ball to save my life, thankfully I've got some charisma going for me. This is an awesome equal opportunity for people of all ages that need a bit of cash for school, props to who ever thought up this scholarship at random idea!
