Their separatist attitude self-discriminates.
That, and their education system doesn't accept a lot of Canadian-based scholarships (see above reason).

The laws in Quebec make it difficult for companies based outside of Quebec to run contests there. It is thus extremely common for companies to exclude Quebec.

I think that everyone should get a chance to participate. They're still a part of Canada afterall and french is accepted as the Canada's second official language...

They're not discriminating towards Quebec. It's Quebec's ridiculous laws that make it too difficult for companies to run contests that involve Quebec.

Yeah, its as NEM99 mentioned, Quebec laws almost make it not worthwile to run a contest there. Thats why you see so many contests across all Canada yet they exclude Quebec, because it would cost them too much to have it running there.

Its not that 'we' - as in the rest of Canada is at odds against them but rather that Quebec is so intent on separating. The Canadian government has tried to make peace with Quebec(i.e bill 101, making french an official language) but what more can be done to make peace with a group of people so intent on being "unique"? Personally, i love quebec- with its deep roots, language, and tradition, but i just don't understand how some of the people there can find reason in wanting to break Canada yet find it logical to maintain financial dependance.

i'm really quite unhappy with quebec's discriminating policies. Quebec high school and cegep students get their low, low tuition (which the rest of canada pays for) while outside of quebec canadians have to pay much more. What's worse though, is that students from FRANCE get the same tuition as Quebec students, when their fellow canadians have to pay extra.
honestly, quebec just makes me so angry some times with their huge double standards that i find difficulty mustering up sympathy for them

I agree with you...if they are a Canadian province too, why do they pay less?? Plus, I would really like to go to l'UQAM (Université du Québec à Montréal) after graduation but if I want to go to any university in Québec I have to do one year of Cégep?? Does any one know why??

Maybe it's coz Quebec has separate laws regarding gambling and prize winnings.... thats why most contests always say excluding Quebec.... maybe it has to do with signing the constitution....

I don't think this is a decision that was made against Quebec. It was most likely just impossible to run the contest in that province; they do have alot of policies the rest of Canada doesn't. (Even their street lights are different!)

Everyone's jelous of quebec and it's early drinking age. Maybe they're scared if a student in Quebec wins the money they'll waste it in the awesome clubs.

By that logic, everyone hates Alberta too (got to love being 18 in AB). About Quebec. I will answer using a post I copied from Ogrant's FAQ. ogrant.com wrote:Why can't I apply if I'm a Quebec resident? After many hours spent calling Quebec trying to find out the rules of distributing money throughout their Province, we came to one conclusion, its a tough and expensive process. Money that could be going to students throughout Canada, would be going to a group called the "Regis des Jeux". This board is set up by the Quebec provincial government and imposes a tax on monetary value distributed throughout Canada (if Quebec residents are eligible to be awarded). Anyone who runs a service like ours in Quebec has to give the Regis des Jeux 10% of the monetary value. Not only is this tax commission expensive, but it also involves weeks, maybe months, of applications, justifications, and reports. So even though we would love to include contestants from Quebec, at this time the Regis des Jeux quite honestly, presents too many loopholes. I assume it's for the same reason in this case.

it's so wierd how Quebec law always makes sure to separate them from Canada
i dream of a united nation...
but seriously i feel bad for all the Quebecois (is that how you spell it) students having to suffer because they life in a province where legislature is so exclusive

Though I am abandoning it for University. and yeah...hah being 18 here is amazing. Calgary is so much fun. EDIT: To the poster above... heck no. There are major pros to being from Quebec.
