That is something that I have definitely not heard before I have a full course-load (2.5 credits) and have 15 hours of class a week. Let's assume I also do 15 hours of homework a week (which I don't even come close to, but I'm what most would consider a "slacker"). That's only 30 hours of work/class a week, 10 hours less than a full-time job.

Then, if you're in science or engineering, you could have a lab or two that's between 1.5 and 3 hours usually. You're still well-under a full-time job and I don't know many people who crank out 15 hours of homework per week. I probably average no higher than 3 hours per week.

Comign from you, university sounds liek it will be an awesome party. Coming from everyone else one htis forum, it sounds like its going to be one endless pit of never ending pain with stacks of homework up to my eyeballs with evil club goers dancing around and trying to force me to have fun, when I should be working until I die and then some more.

This is a forum based on a scholarship site, so there are going to be alot of studious people, but the vibe I've gotten from all my friends in university is that if you stay on top of your assignments, readings and course work, then it's not that difficult.

I'm not a "typical student" but the rigours of university tend to be overstated, especially on this website. Just remember the Law of Diminishing Returns and you'll have a fun, balanced university life.

Lets just say this- If you are a decent time manager and you wake up at a reasonable time on weekends and get the studying done that you need to, there is no reason why you should not be able to take the nights off.
I wasn't asking about the people that study every waking hour because you have to draw the line somewhere, if you are studying from 9am till 8pm maybe you weren't meant to be a nuclear engineer.
jus sayin...

I'm definitely not someone who studies every waking second or anything REMOTELY close to that ... but I just don't see why fun/free time is synonymous with drinking and clubbing for high school and university students.
It's ridiculous to assume that people who don't party/drink/club are freaks who study all the time and have no life.
Chilling with friends, catching a movie, going to concerts, shopping, etc - there's obviously sooo many ways to relax and blow off some steam without alcohol (yeah, I don't drink).
And if mynameismattgotmlgo is right about 1/3 rarely drinking... factoring out the overly studious kids, I think there's enough like-minded kids in university :]

There's so many people in university that there are like-minded kids for everything ie. those that study when they wake up to when they sleep, those that party and drink, and those that don't drink but still like to socialize.

It seems to me almost no first years would be going "clubbing" in Ontario seeing as the drinking age is 19 and the majority of first years are 18. At least for the first couple months. Isn't this correct?

jus sayin... The problem with clubbing (or other events involving lots of drinking) is that it doesn't generally go well with waking up at a reasonable time on weekends in condition to get your work done ;) Now, that being said, it really is all about time management. Most people (myself included) waste a lot of time procrastinating.

To all of you worried about the club aspect, most people in first year are of age. If you're not, then just find the floor parties in your building and go to those until you turn 19. Some clubs around universities allow students in if they are underage because they give out wristbands to 19+.
