Studying is obviously number 1, your paying 15 grand to do it, so go figure, but at the same time, you have to be able to have some fun, and not stress out. What's the point of studying so much and being antisocial? Get out there to the parties n clubs, meet some people so that when you're done university you can say you had a well rounded experience, and NETWORK. Besides, work, study, sleep, just makes you stress more, because your routine is so mundane, and that in turn shortens your life. You have a life, LIVE it. To oilers, I've been to Western to visit friends a few times. Some people club, some people party on rez. From my experience, there seems to always be a party going on in any rez, and definitley you can find one in Saugeen. You're one of the reason why Western is a party school LOL! I think most of you are in for a shock when you get to university. Basically all of my friends go out at least twice a week. I don't really know anybody that doesn't go out at least once a week. What else are you going to do the whole time?

I definitely don't want to be studying on week-end nights but at the same time I do not want to be at the club every weekend Most people I know drink every weekend at the very least. Friday and Saturday...pretty much everybody goes out. Thursday is generally a big night as well. The other days there will be stuff going on but they're generally more low-key or bar-specific.

I see but do people mostly go to bars or clubs? because I'm down for watching hockey at the bar or whatever but I don't really care for dancing like a moron at the club

If you like chilling out and watching the game, there are plenty of bars that cater to just that. Or you could just stay at home with some beers and buddies and do the same. If you don't like dancing, don't go to bars with dancing or simply don't dance while you're there. Just remember that your idea of what is fun is going to shift as you move through university.

Oh and also, I'd think people have more to their lives and more interests than only drinking and clubbing. This is university. University is usually the first time a person is completely independent. When someone all of a sudden has so much freedom you can't blame them for indulging in things their parents might not fully support.

Wow, not to be mean, but some of you people seem like buzz kills. I don't think anyone on this thread and in this forum condones drunken debauchery 24/7 for the 8 months your at school. You're there to study #1 and get you degree. Your paying $10G+, so if you're doing all that just to party, your priorities are messed up. That being said, you need to get out at least one day a week, and step away from the studying. Your put your head down during the week and grind the gears, but on that one night, you have a few beers (or not) and just blow off the steam of the week. Personally I know for a fact that unless I have a major paper or test/exam the following week, my weekends are going to be full of partying, be it clubbing, drinking, or just a chill session in someone's room, because that's the type of person I am.

YES! Most first years go out every weekend. Especially the first month of school. Watch the money! If you can't afford it, don't feel pressured ..

Stringer is exaggerating it a bit, or he is just biased because he is the party-type, but for the most part what he is saying is the truth. It would not surprise me if at least a third of university students go out drinking every weekend, and a good amount of those same people go out twice a weekend. What he is forgetting to include is the other two-thirds. Probably like one-third of all students rarely ever go out drinking, and the other one-third, like me, go out on special occasions (finishing an exam, birthday parties, big hockey games, St. Patty's day, etc...). I don't even so much go for the drinking as I do for the festivity. A lot of people do it... it is pretty much a requirement for university students.
Plus, you will be shocked by the amount of free time you will have in university. I wouldn't say drinking is the only thing to do, but it is quite popular.
