What's wrong with clubbing? You don't always have to dance, you can just chill and knock back a few (albeit overpriced) beers and just vibe.

I dont get why people go clubbing every weekend. It's nice to have fun once in a while but you go to university to STUDY NOT partying.

Yeah, and what is so appealing about clubbing? You end up dancing and rubbing against people you don't know, smelling their sweat and nasty perfume. Yeah, no thanks.

Not everyone is interested in doing that. If you aren't, you'll find things to do and like minded people to do them with.

I figure who has the time AND money to go clubbing/partying every weekend. Personally, I *may * go the rare occasion... but I think I'll ke concentrating more on keeping my grades up as much as possible, because they say the transitiion makes it hard to keep the average you had in 12th grade, while trying to keep my physical health, and just... general health up to par and with that requires SLEEP. So the sleep I'll be lacking during the week, will need to be compensated for somehow anyway. Moreover, I'd probably want to catch up with people back home at some point, keep in touch. Then there's also work schedule that comes into play... I don't know, I don't really think I'd gravitate to that kind of scene much anyway.

I think literally going clubbing EVERY weekend is definitely weird and overkill. If you have the money to pay the $15 cover, and then buy $6 beers all night, good for you, but clubbing once in a while is FUN!!!! If I need a break from studying but don't want to get into the drunken, rampaging mosh party, I'll hit up the club for the night.

Having to pay for hte monthly bus passes really leaves no money for clubbing and drinking. Plus I like to do well in my studies so I bury my nose in my books and work through the weekends.

Why club? Why not work lots of hours or catch up on sleep?

K i'm going to be frank here, I'm asking what the "mainstream" people do, not the people whose lives consist of studying 24/7
I definitely don't want to be studying on week-end nights but at the same time I do not want to be at the club every weekend

LOL at oilers. I'm with you bud. All of you who say why club, study or sleep, you all need to relax. Studying is obviously number 1, your paying 15 grand to do it, so go figure, but at the same time, you have to be able to have some fun, and not stress out. What's the point of studying so much and being antisocial? Get out there to the parties n clubs, meet some people so that when you're done university you can say you had a well rounded experience, and NETWORK. Besides, work, study, sleep, just makes you stress more, because your routine is so mundane, and that in turn shortens your life. You have a life, LIVE it. To oilers, I've been to Western to visit friends a few times. Some people club, some people party on rez. From my experience, there seems to always be a party going on in any rez, and definitley you can find one in Saugeen.

As a first yr student at U of O I probably go out once a week or once every two weeks. In between that time its res parties and such. I'm only in class 15 hrs a week so I need to occupy my time else where, and I do find time to study and keep my grades up. As for the money factor.. pre drink, find somewhere that has a cheap drink night and if its free cover before 11, get there before 11.

It may just be Western (stereotypically rich kids), but a lot of students go out partying every weekend and perhaps even a couple times each weekend---and Thursday night is practically as busy as Fri and Sat nights. At the same time, I'd say a lot of students also study on the weekend (during the day, at least---only the super-keeners study on non-exam time Saturday nights). Get the best of both worlds: study, then party.
The usual plan is to "pre-drink" on campus and then head off to a club later on in the night---it is cheaper that way, and it is also less of wait to get into the clubs if you go later in the night. I personally think it is just as enjoyable to do it all on campus, but it tends to just be a rule to head off elsewhere... change of scenery, a little more action, and so on...
That being said, clubbing is hardly the only thing to do Saturday night to relieve stress. The gym is generally pretty quiet then, there are usually quite a few good movies on TV, and you can usually find something entertaining to do with your friends that does not involve getting drunk (e.g. a few people I know play road hockey in Elgin Hall's parking lot on Saturday nights, and if I am feeling especially energetic, I'd much rather be out there than in a club).

Maybe you thought I was endorsing clubbing, but I meant just going out partying in general to brak the monotony of studying. I too don't understand people who go clubbing EVERY weekend. If you go once in a while it's fun, but going every weekend, especially if you're going to the same few clubs with the same DJ each time is just bad.
