Hey,
I am seriously going insane stressing about what kind of roomate they are going to stick me with. I have applied to rez in a 2-bedroom suite with a kitchenette. That means that we have our 2 seperate rooms, a full bathroom, and a kitchen without the stove. I am nervous about whether or not we are going to instantly click, or whether we are going to hate eachother. Do you have any really good/really bad stories or concerns?
Thanks.

Out of all the roommate pairs I knew, I can only think of two that didn't work out: one resulted in mediation and the subsequent splitting of the two; the other involved two roommates simply not talking to one another. Most likely, you will have a great time with your roommate, as I did and as most people do.

I'm not worried about my roommate. My brother and sisters each had good roommates. My brother actually moved to a house in his second year with his roommate and another on his floor. My oldest sister did have a bad roommate one year but that was more her than her roommate. My sister is very work oriented and so didn't appreciate her roommate not being as studious as her. But they ended up getting along for the year. The next three years she had great roommates. I'm pretty sure I'll get along with my roommate and hopefully will have a great time.

not really. even though I'm pretty darn scent-sensitive, I'm sure I'll get matched with someone who respects that. or they may stick me in single, for that reason.. maybe...

Yeah, my brother had a room with a diabetic guy, which was totally cool except for the numerous times he'd turn on the lights and have to take his blood sugar reading or take medication, or something or other. He stuck through with it, but he came home on most weekends....

I'm just hoping I don't get stuck with a person who's looking for only a room mate, not a friend. Or if I sign up for the program-specific floors, I really don't want to get stuck with someone who's going to latch on and ask for extra help every time I get back to the room.

I'm dreading the probable awkward situations such as walking in on him and his girl or him abusing the sock on the door, but if me and my room mate become wingmen, then it can be a great thing.

I haven't really thought about it yet cause I haven't even applied to res... I should do that actually... but I've got a couple friends at all the universities I've applied at so I figure that even if I get a bad roommate the first year, I might be able to move in with friends the next year anyway. I still hope the roommate would be good too though.

Im so excited for the whole roommate experiece. it's not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Most of the time theres a personality questionare thingy so that they can pare you up as best as they can. it's a really cool. although i am a little scared of the whole price lol razz

Sleep in fear. They will watch you while you sleep. They will steal your precious belongings. They will lick your toothbrush.

The outside world is evil! CORRUPT. BE AFRAID OF YOUR ROOMMATE, BE VERY AFRAID!

Just remember, if you're dreading your roommate, they are also dreading you. Just be kind and you'll probably come to an understanding. Unless they are insane.

I'm not too freaked out about it, honestly. Maybe it's because there's still quite a few months between now and the time where I'll be living with my roomate, maybe I'm just very eager for a fresh start of sorts, who knows. Anyway, I guess in a sense most who wish to do quite well in their studies hope for a roomie who isn't very loud or distracting in how they are and/or how they live. Most of us also hope that this roomate isn't, well... completely insane, to put it bluntly. I'm among those who hope that all of this doesn't happen. razz On the other hand I'd like to make a new friend in the process, not just be "the roomate," so I hope I'm paired with someone rather friendly. One thing I'm worried about though, I think it was mentioned above, I hope to not have to deal with someone whom [would probably be in the same faculty, I'm assuming] who is constantly latching on for help at the drop of a hat. I mean, I don't mind helping out when I can, once in a while; besides you never know when you'll need to ask for help at somepoint in return, right? However, I want to be able to fully focus on my studies without getting sidetracted with someone elses.

I wonder, if you say you are a messy person, would they pair you up with another messy person??? On my Western rez thing, i put 4/5 for cleanliness with 5 being really messy. Does that mean if I get a roommate that he'll be a 4 as well and our room will end up an 8??? LOL

Haha. Yeah, I never thought of it that way. I guess that is how it works. Nevertheless, I can't see them basing the roommate selections too highly on that questionnaire. Most people just end up putting themselves somewhere in the middle of each spectrum anyway. And I knew quite few pairings in which a completely messy person was paired with a neat freak.

Anyhow, many of us had our speculations that they (who is they? I don't know) might do a lot of the selections based on the pictures taken during SAO. Let's face it: you can tell with reasonable certainty whether two people will get along or not simply based on how they look. What really got us (the guys I usually played poker with in residence) thinking about that is how the "random" roommate pairings tended to be racially homogeneous. A white guy being placed with another white guy isn't anything too surprising, but the fact that there were so many East Asians placed with other East Asians relative to the more likely alternative (an East Asian being placed with a white) made us think. We could be completely talking out of our butts, but it is something we noticed.

So where does that leave me as the rare black male in university, especially one like Western LOL. On my football visit I saw 7 black people on the entire tour LOL, I'm not too worried about the whole race thing though, I'm accustomed both being surrounded by black people, and also being the token one.

I don't think anyone should really worry about the race thing. But I haven't heard of too many of my friends being paired with someone of a different background. A couple have, and they got along really well, so I think its more personality wise.

I'm just hoping I get a roommate who is relatively clean, sociable, wants to hang out during frosh week and likes music. I play guitar and hope it won't be a problem, and it shouldn't so long as I don't blast it, or play while he's studying. I'm not that dumb lol.
