I've always thought about going down to the States for Post Secondary, but really, why would I want to leave canada? I love it here. All my family and friends are here and it would cost soooo much money. I think I'm going to stay right up here, EH?

i totally agree. it's so not worth paying extra for tuition, room and board, and all that stuff. it would be interesting though to get away from home (at not such a high cost that is). But overall, I guess I'll probably stay in Canada as I can't cook and thus I will rely on my mom's food.

Ya Im not planning on going to the states either.
But I do know some people who will since they are getting some pretty awesome athletic scholarships. Other than that one guy from my school got a scholarship of $40,000 to Yale!

If you go to the states I think you'd have to be a citizen. Like you'd have to get citizenship, Health care coverage, doctors, Green card if want to work which most people do, etc (this is just what I think)

a lot of time you hear that if you go to the states for your education. say for a teacher, you cant use that degree in Canada. so you just wasted thousands of dollars on a education that you cant use.

I definitely don't mind staying in Canada! My goal was really just to move out of the house, which is why i moved 13 hours away! We definitely have it good here when you think about it!

I actually heard from a teacher that Canadian post secondary institutions are more highly regarded than university in USA that aren't ivey leagues....also, abroad, it is easier for a teacher to get a job graduating from a Canadian university, because they like our accents better But that's only what I heard.

I'm not even leaving my own city let alone the country, I had really planned on it, but I'm saving a ton of money but not moving anywhere...

It's expensive to go outside of the country plus it will only be my undergrad degree so might as well have the comfort of being at home! Waiting on the world to change. ♥

I know that most universities offer exchange programs if ur interested, and depending on the school, you have to pay your home uni's tuition, not your host school's, although u'd prob have to pay for living expenses, etc from ur own pocket.

I am staying in Canada for university too... its just seems like a better place, besides all my family and friends are here, moving away just wouldn't make any sense.

Going to university in Canada is much more affordable than going to the US. Not only due to cheaper tution, but the plane tickets and travel expenses. As well there is no need to apply for Visas and other docments required to live and study in the us

i completely agree with the OP, I actually want to stay in canada to go to uni. I get so tired of people assuming that those with the best marks are the ones that go to US unis. the majority of people i know who are in the states now are there for athletic scholarships or because they already had residency status (and i know quite a few who are in the states now actually). I have an over 95 average and am most likely going to be entering a program with a low 80s cut off at a university that won't be giving me more than 2000 dollars in scholarships. I sometimes feel like my 95 could have gotten me elsewhere, but when i think about it that 'elsewhere' that i'm thinking of is ultimately going to end up costing me a lot more money and the education i'll be getting is not going to be that much different. I just hate that assumption though that people have that if you stay local you were somehow not 'good enough' to go away, which is clearly untrue
