This might be a moot question, but I'm wondering how you guys would rank Canada's law schools (and why)?

Generally speaking U of T is recognized to be pretty amazing at everything.

Every school is known for certain things.

Queen's is known for criminal law.

Alberta is good for constitutional law

York is the largest school and known for a very varied cirriculum.

Toronto has good connections with bay st.

Windsor LLB/JD... can take bar in the USA.

Ottawa- Tech law, international law.

Uvic is also supposed to be very good but I can't quite remember why.

In terms of prestiege, it's UofT by far. In terms of quality of education, it really varies, as BUBBA said.

The thing is, I spoke to some lawyers, and apart from UofT, the presteige of the school doesn't really matter. If you get a below average grade at Osgoode (which isn't very highly regarded by many lawyers, including the ones I spoke to, eeven though they went there. I think it's because it accepts a lot of people so it's not very exclusive) and someone else has an above average grade at Windsor, and a better interview/application, they'll get the job. These lawyers I spoke to work in one of the best firms in Canada, and that firm is composed of like..harvard, oxford, LSE, UofT, grads, but they also have a LOT of windsor and western grads. So again, as long as you have good marks and a good resume, it doesn't really matter THAT much where you go. Just do well.

LSE law is REALLY easy to get into.

Osgoode is a large school, which for me dilutes it's educational prestige.

so it's pretty much established that UofT is the best? Why is considered so for law school... but it isn't considered the best for undergraduate schooling for someone planning to go to law school?

is excited for a future, and will start to be excited for her future once she decides on it. !

Applied to: McGill, Queen's, UofT (St. George) : Arts (International Studies), Western
Early Acceptance to: Everywhere! Now for the decisions.

UofT isn't regarded as a good program for undergrad because they don't really care about the students. UofT is a MASSIVe research institution, so they put most of their money into research, and also quite a bit of it into their professional and grad schools. The reason the professional schools at UofT (med, law, dentistry, engineering, etc) are so good is because of UofT's insane rep and funding when it comes to post-graduate stuff.

However, UofT law isn't the be all and end all of law. I was actually talking to a UofT law grad, and he said he appreciates the reputation his degree gives him, but the teaching experience was pretty crapty. Quite a few of the profs are Adjunct profs (meaning they're practising lawyers or w/e, and they do teaching part-time), so they don't really have regular office hours and they aren't very avaliable, so it wasn't that great in terms of teaching. Also, if you go to UofT and your grades are below their bell curve, it don't look so hot to employers.

Sapientia et Doctrina Stabilitas

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

I think "Canadian" was a key term in the title.

i'm pretty sure you just searched "law schools" on google and just copied and pasted the first few, seeing as they are listed in alphabetical order (except the 1st one)

just saying, if you dont have an opinion dont say anything

...well back on topic, my law teacher said that u of t was the best as an all-round law school but as BUBBABROWN said specialization varies by school

Trinity college is not U of T's law school. It's a highly selective undergraduate college at UofT.

Hi,

UT and McGill are the best (in terms of International/US big law placements,) rest in the middle, Windsor, Manitoba, Moncton at bottom.
All the York students claiming that they are in UT tier, too bad, you're not - try look for one in New York or SF.
