I was wondering if anyone out there knew how to get "nominated" for scholarship awards. For example, do you have to go to the student body and have them nominate you, or is it more the administration that does it? I was just curious to know, in case any such awards appear. I realize that my guidance counsellor should have the answers to this, but unfortunately she doesn't, and I was just wondering if anyone here has done it before.

I think that at my school the guidance counsellors just sort of looked up the marks of students and then interviewed them to be nominated for the scholarship. it was basically that they considered people who they knew were good students, so I don't think that anyone applied or anything or were suggested. However, talking to a guidance counsellor about scholarships might help you to get them to think of you when they are considering people for a scholarship.

For my school, BIG scholarships such as the UBC MAJOR ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIP, required nominations. i think it was around 2% of the graduating class...and the counsellor basically looked at everyone's marks and nominated the 6 most competitive people in gr.12 that she thought would have the highest chance of winning. Hope that helps.
