Hey guys,

I am an international student and plan to apply to some Canadian universities for the Fall '09 session. Would be applying for an MA Economics.

Which Canadian universities in your reckoning are the most generious in terms of financial aid (scholarships, bursaries, TA/RAships etc) at the graduate level?

~Cheers

Actually at the grad level sometimes the more "reputable" ones are pretty generous.

That being said, I don't claim to come anywhere close to knowing which ones are overall the most generous when it comes to Master's level study. Two things to look out for are guaranteed funding and how much TAs / RAs are paid. Some schools will only take you if they can offer you funding, and the pay for TAs/RAs can vary quite a bit. Although you may be able to narrow it down a bit, realistically you are going to have to apply and see what places offer you. For example a school that doesn't guarantee funding and pays TAs crap could potentially give you a big scholarship still.

Remember that it often takes just as long to do a search or two on Google to try and find the answer to your question as it takes to type it in a post here, let alone the time waiting for a reply.
If your question is "What mark does it take to get into University X", or "What are the requirements to get into University X", it's on their website and/or electronicinfo.ca (for Ontario schools). Particularly for Ontario schools, those ranges are a pretty good picture of what kind of mark will get you into the program, and if you're more than a couple percent higher it's practically guaranteed unless it requires a supplementary form.

In terms of overall $ given U of T is up there.. they have the largest endowment.

In terms of most $ as a % of operating budget queen's is #1... they have one of the highest endowments per student.

for grad school I've found that every top university in Canada is pretty good, the only exception for me was McGill who offered me $0 to attend their MA program (totally unacceptable for a "top" school).

If you can, check out some american schools, for example princeton pays you to attend and has a policy against offering loans as "financial aid" so you have more time to research smile
