Is it possible to go from having a 2.00 CGPA in first year to having a 3.00 CGPA in second year? Assuming the same amount couse load is taken in both years, what type of grades would one have to receive the make that jump? I'm guessing you would need to be getting all 75+ in all your classes. Can any of the math whizzes let me know if this is possible and what type of marks it would take. Anyone wanna share stories if they made a big jump in GPA from one year to the next. Thanks.

If you can't figure out what marks you need, you won't make the jump. How lazy can you be that you can't figure that out yourself?

Can any of the math whizzes let me know if this is possible and what type of marks it would take. Anyone wanna share stories if they made a big jump in GPA from one year to the next. Thanks. To jump up a whole gradepoint in your second year, you would have to get a 4.0 in every class if you have the same number of courses and your first year. Then you would end up with a 3.0 GPA at the end of your second year. It's nice and simple to figure out since you will have the same number of courses as your first year. Basically-super simplified: Let 2.00 represent your first year. Let 4.0 represent your second year. (2.0+4.0)/2=3.0 If you are taking a different courseload than your first year it would be a bit more in depth, but since you're not I just showed you the simpliest way to figure it out. The more in depth process for calculating it (which you would need if you had unequal course loads) would look something like this: Lets just say you are taking 10 classes each year. First year: 2.0 average x 10 classes = 20 Second year: 4.0 average x 10 classes = 40 (20+40)/20 classes = 3.0GPA A bit more realistically, lets assume you get a 3.5 average in second year between all your classes. Then your overall average for the two years would be (2.0+3.5)/2=2.75

Well, maybe I wanted some confirmation? Some confirmation? Please. If you can't do basic math, how do you expect to succeed in university?

LOL! Who are you? And why have you taken such an interest in my thread? Macgirl answered my question, you didn't. Are you waiting for me to cry? Stringer wrote: If you can't do basic math, how do you expect to succeed in university?
Well by going to Wilfred Laurier, how else. I kid, I kid.

Well by going to Wilfred Laurier, how else. I kid, I kid. Stringer lacks tact. I see recurring posts on here where he belittles and bashes fellow forum members for asking questions or making statements that he deems as 'dumb'. I wouldn't take it too seriously!

I wouldn't take it too seriously! I tell it like it is. The fact is the OP posted an idiotic question. They're either stupid, lazy, or both. They deserve and need the criticism. If and when they mature, they will use that criticism to improve instead of whining about it.

Actually, i know a girl, who got 1 year suspension from university due to bad grades. She came back the year after, and ranked 11th in Engineering. When your willpower is challenged, it all boils down to how much of a change you are willing to make, If you want bigger changes, make bigger sacrifices, if you want smaller changes, then try not to sacrifice alot. So if you want a 1GP change to you CGPA, then think about what you are willing to sacrifice. Think about what stoped you from getting that GPA last year - use your failure to boost your success.

Perhaps by taking courses which don't involve math? Those do exist. And many people (myself included) find GPA calculations can get a little confusing. I have a GPA calculator tailored to my program that a friend of mine got from one of our profs and I am completely reliant on it, and yet somehow I find myself able to do the work required of me. It's almost as if not every course in university uses math...

Stringer assumes that just because something is common sense to him it must be common sense to everyone else, therefore if you ask a question he knows the answer to you must be 'an idiot' or deserve to get reamed out. Stringer: I'm not disagreeing that sometimes some questions on the forums seem like 'dumb' questions, but that's only because of your experience. Calculating grades at university can be daunting for some students, especially students that don't take any math courses. And if you think a question is dumb-here's an idea, why don't you just keep your opinion to yourself? I don't understand why you take the time to bash someone for asking a question. Not only are you not answering the question, but you're belittling people for no reason. If you really think it's a dumb question, just move on to a different thread. There's no need to get nasty.

I was actually surprised to see this thread still going. And I rarely, if ever, take these types of comments over the internet seriously. So no worries. I see your a sensitive guy and you let comments over the internet get to your head. You shouldn't. The sole purpose of this thread was to have a question answered. And it was answered. Your opinions about me fall on deaf ears and I have no use for them, so please save your time. If you wish to continue rambling on, your free to do so as well.
