hi im a first year science and engineering student. I have to take the math/science requirements. But, i'm still not sure if i want to specialize or declare a major in science in the following year. Im thinking of taking some psychology or english courses as well.
If i do decide to double major, should i be taking the same amount of science courses and english/psych. courses? Or should i just fulfill all the requirements of a first year in science?
What can students double major science with? Can you have any combination of subjects
thankss in advance

Check how many prerequisites there are for a psych/english major... from what I remember, there were some where you only needed one prerequisite. If that is the case, you could easily fit it into your science schedule.
If you're going to do a double major, your second major should be somewhat related to your first major. This way, some of your courses will overlap each other, and you won't have to take them twice. Otherwise, you will probably have to stay an extra year or two to complete the required courses.

if there is an overlap in the required courses, you may be forced to take more courses. when courses are required in BOTH programs and you take those classes, ...those credits will only count towards ONE of your majors (that's the rule for my program). This rule may vary depending on the program/school you attend but if they are similar, you need to talk to the registrar's office so you dont get screwed over. you may not find out about this until you attempt to graduate forcing you to take more classes to make up that incomplete credit. With the programs you have selected (Biochemistry, Psych/English) you shouldnt have that problem.. to circles17...since you arent sure if you want to complete a specialist or a double major...i would recommend taking the required courses for sciences and english/psych because if you do decide to do a double major, you wont have to take the 1st year courses 2nd year (those courses fill up faster b/c 1st years get first dibs in those classes.) You can have any combination of subjects and double major in anything just as long as you complete the required courses b4 you attempt to graduate

Quote:those credit will only count towards ONE of your majors from what i've read on the U of T website, you can use overlapping credits towards both majors. Just look into your faculty websites to see what their policies are.. Quote:If i do decide to double major, should i be taking the same amount of science courses and english/psych. courses? you don't really need to have equal numbers of both - just make sure your prereqs for later years are covered and then take whatever interests you instead of worrying about having an equal amount of both.
