Hey I don't hear too much about this... can anyone describe any experiences (that you may have had, or friends etc)?

My friend is going into this, I honestly didn't really know much about it to consider it...

A couple friends of friends go there.
I don't know much about it, but it sounds like a very heavy course load.

Don't take my explanation to be 100% true, it is just what I have heard about a friend's boyfriend.
He takes eight courses a semester, 2 - 3 are military based and then the rest are more academic (sciences, maths, humanities, etc.).
Then there is a physical education type course where you're in the gym or out on the obstacle course thing they use. The other 1 - 2 courses I am not sure about but they are in training I am sure.
The friend's boyfriend wants to be a fighter pilot (I think), and he is doing a Aeronautical Engineering degree.

You go to this college for "free" and then you serve 4 years (or something) in the Canadian military, and if you pull out early you have to pay for the education (which I heard they calculate to 20k/year or more). While you attend the school, you get about $200/month for expenses after room & board/food.

Also no girls are allowed in the male dorms, not sure if it is after the curfew, or ever, I just know she had to sneak in and out. His school days are 9 - 4 M-F, if not more. Also first years must wear their uniforms everywhere, downtown, to parties, etc.

*Edit/Added*
I think you have to take English and French throughout your time there, and the students are split into smaller groups (squadrons?), you have to pass a medical examination, and some kind of fitness test. Supposedly during the first month, the frosh have to march everywhere, haha. And at the end of frosh month there is an hour long obstacle course you have to complete.

I know most of the process that goes into getting into RMC, so if anyone is looking for information I may be able to help.

The RMC is pretty much like a regular university, but on a military base with a military setting. You're taking regular courses as well as military courses, so you're qualified for two occupations at once. It's a military college, so rank and physical fitness exists in a big way. Your course is fully covered and paid for, but you owe the same amount of time back to the military once you're done. So, if you're there for a four year program you owe the military four years after your schooling.

I was seriously considering taking this course but chickened out when it came to signing the papers.

I made up some lame excuse about not having enough courses to my parents, so I have to take more this year. The plan is now to go into debt, have fun for 4 years instead of being a weener, THEN join the military.

D.Dickin, do you have a rank while there? I've never understood what happens if you're in uni but in the forces- are you an officer or a noncom?

http://www.rmc.ca/admission/index_e.html wink

The most common program (Reserve Officer Training Program) is the one where the students live on base in the barracks and do their schooling. In that case they are trained at the rank of Naval Cadet (I) and move into Naval Cadet (II) and Naval Cadet (III) throughout their school years. Upon graduating they're given their commission and serve are promoted to the rank of Acting Sublieutenant or Second Lieutenant. See here.

I seriously considered going there to get an Aeronautical Engineering degree, but I don't think the military is for me.

You really are an idiot. You're not funny even in the slightest sense. I highly doubt you even applied to be in the military, let alone went through the screening to become a member.

D.Dicken you're way too uptight.

He probably didn't even apply to be in the military. Not a lot of people do.

No, it is your inability to take anything for what it is worth. You don't understand sarcasm, or I guess any kind of joke.

I know I was agreeing with what you said.

D.Dickin he was talking about YOU not Lamoid. Lamoid isn't annoying, and is sometimes really funny.
