I am entering grade 12 with aspiring hopes to get into the three biz schools (queens, ivey, schulich)

i kno for these courses they count two of ur math marks (except for ivey sorta) and im NOT particulary strong in math.. i got a 82 in grade 11 mark however im confident if i try harder i can do better this year.

so heres my dilemma:

i took world issues in summer school and got a 93, so for this upcoming year i have only six courses (law, writers craft, adv functions, calculus, english, economics) and as u can see, i havent taken data.

so either i take a seventh course (data) and take on an extra course load (math nonetheless) and have some kind of a safety net. or i can stick with my six courses and hope i do well in adv functions and calculus and maybe take one of them in night school if i mess up..

what should i do? thanks

I think you should take data, you would still have one spare. I'm like you, I'm not strong in math, and I got a mark in the high 80s in data (I know, it's still kind of low for b-school). I did worse than you in gr11 functions. Data isn't like the other maths, basically a grade nine could do it, you just have to know the concepts. It wasn't a lot of work either..very few questions for homework (sometimes none) and two major projects, so the courseload isn't heavy at all.

For the love of God, take data management... it will be the easiest math course you have ever taken in your life. As you've said, it provides a safety net, and the workload isn't heavy at all (at least it wasn't at my school). You can focus on adv. functions and calculus and still have a high mark in data.

wow. data management at my school wasn't easy at all. the class avg was 60? that may be because our school is top in yrdsb and ranks high in ontario though :S
i'd take data. older business students tell me that it's useful.

Normally I would question why you would need all three maths, but then again I am not someone with an interest in business schools. If it's anything like physics for us science geeks then I recommend taking it. A lot of guidance counselors will tell people not to take physics and then you end up needing it in University because it is a required pre-req for med school and a lot of other things.

Long story short...if it'll prepare you for University and prove to be a mark bumper - take it. big grin

Really? What school do you go to? Bayview? Unionville? I'm just curious because supposedly my school is top in yrdsb too =='

You shouldn't. Student101 is just being a total ahole and trying to crush your dreams. Yes, it's hard to get into. It's not impossible. Just work hard.

He/she is probably just bitter about being denied.

No im not being an a-hole. I actually didn't even apply. I visited Kingston and didn't like the campus at all. My point is really if you drop calc for data it will for sure boost up your mark and increase your chances of getting into ivey and schulich. I was in your position at one point and thats the decision I made and fortunately it worked out. (Ignore me and take calc if queens is your #1, with data as your 7th course)
