Hey, I just joined Youthink. How do you become a "VIP writer?" I thought all writers were the same.

You have to do a few bigger articles/interviews, then they will decide if you are VIP, which means you get top assignments (like headlines, cover stories, interviews with celebrities, etc.)

My big article is in this month's Street Edition. It's a full-page article on teen pregnancy... you can check it out if you like.

I'll check it out! How many "big" articles do you need to write before you become VIP?

I was admittedly disappointed when I wasn't chosen to interview Oasis/ Janet Jackson.

I hope that there are going to be a few of those kind later on though.

Well I wrote a few reviews first and then they asked me to write the Teen Pregnancy article, which I said yes to. Then, they decided it was good enough so they sent me an email (I can PM you what they sent me if you'd like) telling me I was a VIP writer so I'd get inside opportunities to interview and such.

I just barely missed my chance to interview the Backstreet Boys at the Saddledome backstage in September. I took the job but I realized it was interfering so I had to cancel and give it to someone else worry

On the PSE, it asks you to list two significant awards/distinctions.
What do you guys plan to write?

I don't know. I was thinking my certificates for top 25% in math contests and maybe captain of the basketball team/scholarships.

Math student of the year (this year) and I don't know whether I should include my violin award, City of Calgary youth of the month or my field hockey Most Valuable and Most Improved awards.

Mind you I'm planning on applying for major entrance so I think it might have more than two spaces, I don't know. If so, I'm even more confused!

There's still grade 12 to come, guys. Work hard and you can win even more! There's still loads of time.

Major entrance has an entire page for you to list awards and achomplishments =) If I'm not mistaken, you can download the form on their website and take a look.
