I wouldn't say McGill has the *best* location. Montreal's certainly my fave city (of the very few I've been to), but I would not want to have to climb that stupid mountain every day between classes!
Obviously, the "program" thing will vary between people razz
Which Queen's filtering method?? There's ones post-acceptance too!
I know I'm biased, but I would say Queen's' school pride is above and beyond Western's...but Western still beats most.
UBC's weather: RAIN?!?!?!
Guelph's food: Never tried it, but I've heard it's awesome, and (based on University-funded food, not the more independent cafes etc.) it's gotta be better than Queen's and UofT combined!
Waterloo's co-op: DEFINITELY!!!!!!!! Although their employment rates have dropped significantly over the past few years...but still better than anywhere else.
UofT's recognition and funding: recognition = very true; funding = ??? In terms of what?!

I think the only recognize Canadian university internationally is U of T

Not the ONLY, but by far the most widely known. Waterloo's known for sure in the IT and engineering world. Think: Bill Gates. He's announced on numerous occassions that he loves recruiting from there. Queen's and McGill are also quite well known by the Ivy Leagues.

Ummmm...UBC and SFU are WEST. And UBC's always widely praised!

Mac is up at the top, its usually seen as about 4th in Canada.

Seen by who??? It's certainly good, but not top 4....though it is program-dependent.

TRENT UNIVERSITY...

you can enjoy every second of that beautiful scenery, the river, the forests, the trails, everything! All this while learning.. it's pretty awesome.

I agree. When I visited there in grade 12, my exact words were, "I'd definitely love this place the most if it weren't for the reputation." I often wish I HAD gone there...it's true what they say, where you went for your undergrad means NOTHING. I know you don't want to believe that while you're applying during high school--I certainly didn't!!!--but you quickly figure out it's so true.

....I give up on reading the rest!

My 2 cents: You should be looking at the whole university, not just specific programs. For example, Waterloo CS and Eng are fantastic, but their arts programs aren't even close to most other schools; Waterloo is too focused on its "known" programs. Also, Waterloo's taken quite a few tumbles the past few years!! I personally think McGill and Queen's are the best, depends on your tastes. I do NOT like UofT--you truly are a number, and it takes a lot of effort to make a single friend. At most other places, knowledge about extra-curriculars, seminars, concerts, etc. seem to fall in your lap; at UofT, you look out for yourself--and the real world is not like that at all.

What do you mean by "student filtering method" @ Queen's?

Ps: Western's school pride is < Queen's.

Otherwise it seems good smile

I'd say there might be some regional bias, no? Most of the people in this forum are from the East, so you guys may know more about the schools near you, and therefore think they are better! I think for an undergrad especially, all of the major Canadian universities can be seen as the best. It depends on what you're looking for.

McMaster and Waterloo were not in the top 100.

Rankings are utterly pointless anyway. McMaster IMO is a world-class school.

university of montreal was on the list but not western, mac, or uw...that's strange. i'll be honest and say that i know nothing about u of m and i really haven't heard much of it before either.

i agree with crazybubba...university rankings are so varied and don't take into consideration a number of things so they're not really all that valuable as some people like to think. most of the universities on there anyway have strong graduate programs and are more famous for the work and research and studies that are done by graduates as opposed to undergrads so some of the facts that those rankings are done based on aren't that relevant for us anyway. Some universities always appear on those lists---mcgill, ubc, ut because they're all around strong but for specific programs some universities might be stronger.

I don't agree with the comment that U of T is most widely recognized I'm in Dubai right now and A LOT of the top oil companies have people employed from University of Saskatchewan it's actually quite well-known and well regarded for it's physics program and also arts I've been told if anyone knows Weatherford or Halliburton these are some of a few companies. Were in Dubai because my dad works for Weatherford he went to U of A.I think all the major universities are pretty surprisingly well known it would probably just be a bit harder for technical colleges, colleges, and University of Lethbridge (no offense, it's still a great university).I thin it depends on the student rather than the university.

To reply to an old old post.
Skittleys:
McGill is at the base of the mountain. Only the residences are really a hike up... Unless I'm ridiculously mistaken...

By program, I was really just referring to myself (BHSc. Long time ago)

By Queen's student-filtering-method, I was referring to their PSE, which as it turns out, isn't really much anyway. But better than nothing (i.e., submitting marks, wham, done.)

Queen's and Western stereotypically has the most school pride... I think Queen's is more of an inner pride thing that dies down because there are also hardcore academics where as Western is year-round party? Feel free to correct.

I must correct myself though and say that UVic has the best weather. Jesus christ. Perfect for my whole stay this summer. I hear the area around UBC gets more rain, so uh. Go UVic and bunnies. albino albino albino albino albino

Funding = $$$$ as a whole. But I guess $ per student would be Western or something? I read this up a while back and can't quite remember.

And you're totally right, there is an ontario/quebec bias on this forum from what i've seen anyway. I didn't know U of Lethbridge existed til I met a recent Music grad from there this summer. I knew next to nothing about U of S and U of A until recently and they seem pretty top notch and the people I know attending those schools seem pretty content with them. I suppose there just isn't a whole lot of population near those schools in comparision to the Ontario ones. Same goes with the East coast schools, ie. Dal, St. Mary's, Mt. Allison, etc.

i live in dubai so know what your talking about, but what you have to realise is that of the canadians in the oil companies most of them would have graduated from UofA and U of S because thats where all the oil in canada is, they would have been locals and because they lived in oil country, they got into the petroleum business and thats why they would later be drafted to dubai, kuwait, oman, saudi, qatar, and baharain
