I am looking to go into the B.Pharm program at UofT after first year. I would like people who have applied and gotten in to tell me what GPA gives you a good chance of getting in. I know the minimum, but how much above the minimum gives you a reasonable chance of getting in? If you got in, and if you don't mind, can you tell me in what range your GPA was? For example: 3.5 to 3.8. Also, what kind of PCAT grades are required? Is UofT looking for 90th percentile? Finally, how difficult is it to maintain an excellent GPA in first year at UofT St. George Campus if you are staying at home? Is a lot of first year just review of high school?

Oh yeah and what is an easy first year course that does not require much work that I can take as my fifth course. I am loaded with science and math subjects and want one easy course where I can get good marks without doing much work. Thanks for the help.

Since there is a change in the admission requirement the 2009 cycle and this is the first cycle to use the PCAT, it's very hard to know what PCAT percentile they are looking for. Just remember that the minimum cutoffs of each section is determined by the pool of applicants. If the pool is unusually strong, the requirements will be high. If the pool is unusually weak, the requirements will be lower. However, looking at other Canadian universities (ie, UBC), those admitted had average of 85th to 90th percentile.

To have a good chance of getting in, you should have at least an 80% average (3.7 GPA). Anything lower would require you to do well in the UTPAT (or PCAT now). Just remember that your percent average is what the faculty will look at, and not your GPA.

Getting a good GPA in first year UTSG is difficult, but it's not impossible. Just work hard throughout the year and you should be okay. Around 15-20% of the class will have 80% or higher.

BIO150 at UTSG is an ecology and evolutionary biology course. While you may be familiar with some of the material from high school, a lot will be new.
CHM139 overlaps with high school a lot, but CHM138 is mostly new.
MAT135 deals with limits, differentiation, integration, series and sequences. The first half of the course (derivatives) is a complete review of high school, but the second half (integration and series/sequences) should be new.

Good luck with your admissions!
