BGYA02H3 S - Introductory Biology: Part II
CHMA10H3 F - Introductory Chemistry I
CHMA11H3 S - Introductory Chemistry II
ENGA11H3 S - Intro Lit: 1945 to Today
MATA30H3 F - Calculus I
MATA36H3 S - Calculus II for Physical Sci
PSYA01H3 F - Intro Psychology: Part I --- Online lectures
PSYA02H3 S - Intro Psychologyrazzart II ---- Online lectures
RLGA01H3 F - World Religions I

worry worry worry

This courses are just pre-requistes to get admitted into school of pharmacy U of T. I got only one year to get into the pharmacy school or I forget becoming a pharmacist so all the Tips and suggestions are most welcome to help me get into pharmacy program. ( ANy one thinking along the same lines get here)

HAve to take PCAT this year, . ANy experience with PCAT?????. It just looks harder than formal u of t pharm. admission test. Any suggestions. Are my first sem courses are enough to prepare me for pcat or i have to study books designed to help studnets who want a higher pcat score.

I have also heard that they prefer 3rd or 4th year students over first year's to give admission offer to pharmacy program.

I have also enrolled in online lecture for both Psycology courses because it interests me and I could not find any space in lecture room.
Any advice for students taking online lectures. IS it hard or not.

LAst thing DO i buy used books if any helpful than new ones.

Your course selection is definitely not overloaded - it's perfectly fine. In fact, most life science student will have the same course load as you. I really do not recommend you take less than a 5.0 course load because you will be seriously disadvantaged during final selections in pharmacy. Also, UofT pays special attention to your chemistry courses, so try and put forth an extra effort in your chemistry courses to ensure decent grades.

May I ask why you only have one year to get into pharmacy or else you'll have to "forget becoming a pharmacist"? I'm a bit confused about that because a lot of people get into pharmacy after 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year.

As for the PCAT... I've never written it so I wouldn't know. I would not say that it's "harder" than the UTPAT though... The UTPAT is a strange test and you can't really prepare for it except for maybe the essay questions... PCAT on the other hand, you CAN study for it so you may have the upper hand if your academic skills are strong. Now, I'm a UofT St. George student and our first year biology (Organisms in their Environment) is an Evolution and Ecology course. In other words, it's completely different from the cell biology and anatomy/physiology tested on the PCAT. So obviously, the first year course wouldn't be sufficient in preparing me for the PCAT. I don't know what type of biology UTSC teaches during first year though. But to be safe I would definitely buy PCAT prep books to help you study.

Your year of study doesn't matter and you won't be disadvantaged during final selections just because you only completed one year of university. I just finished first year and I got into pharmacy.

I have no idea what an online lecture is. o.O sorry!

Buying old books could save you some money, but make sure you get the course syllabus before you buy your books. The required textbook may change from year to year. Good luck!

Is that the normal course sequence? It may well be, but it sets off some alarm bells in me without knowing the way UTSC does it. If there's a Calculus I for Physical Sci, it's probably better to take that even if "Calculus I" satisfies it as a prerequisite. But maybe it's all the same in Calc I and they split off after that.

Remember that it often takes just as long to do a search or two on Google to try and find the answer to your question as it takes to type it in a post here, let alone the time waiting for a reply.
If your question is "What mark does it take to get into University X", or "What are the requirements to get into University X", it's on their website and/or electronicinfo.ca (for Ontario schools). Particularly for Ontario schools, those ranges are a pretty good picture of what kind of mark will get you into the program, and if you're more than a couple percent higher it's practically guaranteed unless it requires a supplementary form.

BGYA01H3 focuses on cell biology (genetics, enzymes etc.)

BGYA02H3 focuses on evolution and ecology (LOL you have prof.Manne ...she's not as easy as she appears..when you think of ecology, you think it will be easy but it was the hardest part of bio:S people still talk about her final. ::memorize every detail)

Basically A01/ most of A02 is the same things that you learned in Grade 11/12 Biology. you do learn some new things in both courses but its almost like a review course. ( more detailed that highschool tho.) I havent taken the PCAT but i would recommend buying the study book (PCAT Prep im guessing it would be called:S) b/c in BGYA01/A02..there is alot of material in the lecture/textbook and a limited amount of time so many of the professors cover the most essential details that will be useful in future bio courses but they cant cover everything. this may mean that they have to skip a couple chapters or parts of a chapter in order to finish on time. If you need to know the parts that they skipped, you might be put at a disadvantage.

When do you have to complete the PCAT? if you are worried about being overloaded but you still want to take 10 courses (5 each sem) you could go to summer school next summer. Im not sure if you need to complete 5.0 credits to take the PCAT tho.

As for online lectures...Great decision! i saw the waitlisting list for the in-class lecture and i was surprised b/c that class has an online option. people people people when will they learnn..anyways..the online lecture works like this. The in-class lecture for psych is ALWAYS videotaped. once that lecture is over..one of the TAs will post the lecture on the online website (www.utsc.utoronto.ca/~psya01 --> check it out to see an example of the online lectures from Fall 2007). This class has 3 lectures (monday, wednesday and Friday) so these lectures will stay on the website for the entire week. Once the NEW WEEK begins, ALL THREE of the lectures will be deactivated so you have to make sure you watch the lectures b4 monday at noon..i noticed they would be deactivated around that time..maybe a little later. psych is not hard..the mid-terms/finals can be difficult b/c they require alot of memorization...i did a long post on UTSC PSych specifically talking about teaching styles in another post.

I just said for a quite understandable reason behind it b/c lets say i enter school of pharmacy after 2nd year of my undergraduate and finish it in 4 years (May be they want you to take a bridge course between b.pharm to d.pharm to have CANADIANS PHARMACISTS recognized across the borders, US). That makes me spend 6 years to get a bachelor (entry level pharamacy degree) where people have completed masters in other fields who have started at same time as I did. It is still great because pharmacy is a rewarding career so could spent 6 years to start a health professional career whose demand is more than ever. THe more time I spent in school pursuing my dream of being a pharmacist the more burden of "OSAP LOAN" I will be burried under. Unless anyone wins a lottery in our family and contributes to my education .lol. ALso if I spend 6 years to get b.pham degree than there will be more time required to do internship and get licensed and i will be well 24-25 when i see myself wearing a white coat.

So it is not spending more time in school, but it is getting somthing out of it which can satisfy you for rest of your life.

HAve taken a year off from school after high school and have been working in a computer parts manufacturing factory and get paid 12$/hr but that can not satisfy me after I move out of my parents house.

You really got in Pharamcy school after first year completion, what was your gpa, from program, send a pm if private. Wana get a target ofcourse higer than minimum required posted it on site.

They have not updated the requirements for 2009 admissions. WHen everyone is taking courses for 2008 and tries to getin pharmacy school in SEPT, 2009.
My pcat date is 21 jan , will be registrating for it late in december '08 but will check if I can do it during winter break and cae the score by any means. Because there is a no way to get a good score while I going to school for 2nd sem.

If you wanted to practise pharmacy in the States, then you would probably have to go to pharmacy school down there. Since all pharmacists in Canada have a BSc.Phm, I think all those with a BSc.Phm. degree will be grandfathered once the switch to Pharm.D. is implemented, so you don't have to worry about that. Just concentrate on getting into pharmacy school first I guess. If you're worried about OSAP loans, just remember that pharmacists are paid well and you should have less trouble repaying your debt.

Check your PM, I sent you my stats and some other info.

Holy, applicants to that program are well under 2000 not what it says on site "well over 1000" there will be 5 applications for each of 240 seats to be admitted. WE surely need more pharmacy schools in ontario. However, is it going to make any difference with waterloo pharmacy school opened this year. I mean people who were rejected by U of T pharmacy could try at Waterloo b'/c they have co-op. Since U of T pharmacy grad's have higher chances of passing (exam to get licensed than any other school in country, was reading it somewhere) that is why we will still have more students thinking of U of T pharmacy.

By the way the exam date for pcat is jan 24, 09 so will be studying during new year holidays

Hi everyone, I need some info about pharmacy admission at UT,

I'm gonna start second year of science at UTSG this September, and I completed my first year at another university.

Don't know what is the REAL GPA theyre lookin for caz the website says something around 74 is the min for admitted students.

Anyone from pharmacy at UT can give me any real stats on GPA?

mine is a B (70%), and I need to work really hard this year, but my other question here is that I can go to University of Ottawa for Biopharmaceutical sciences ,

Ive heard it's harder to get good grades at UT, but I know I can do it at UOttawa, but UT has a big name, not sure which one matters the most, name or GPA?

Any help would be really appreciated...

If you do not have the minimum posted GPA for a highly competitive program like Pharmacy, you will not get in. Period. If you've got slightly above the minimum, you've got a chance, but not a very good one - the rest of your application would have to be stellar.

If you do have the minimum, all programs like that that I've seen will specifically say that they do not care which university you are from. While it's probably fair to assume that the people reviewing the applications may have some personal biases, and the name of your school could affect how they view you as an overall package (even if they don't consciously think it does) the effects of anything like that will be minimal.

Remember that it often takes just as long to do a search or two on Google to try and find the answer to your question as it takes to type it in a post here, let alone the time waiting for a reply.
