well you know that tx2500 series from HP is a tablet; so you can write on it as if it's a paper.

I have x61t lenovo tablet and pen recognition is great.

If you are unorganized like me, i'd go with tablets.

two different products. however if you want the tablet check out Lenovo's and during next couple months there will be awesome sales everywhere.

15.4''?? that thing is almost the size of my desktop!

The vaio has a better processor..., but worse graphics card (though both are integrated). Personally, I think I'd pick the HP just because it's a tablet which is useful for note taking (especially when you have to draw diagrams and formulae), but HP and AMDs in general tend to get quite hot, so make sure you get the heat sink/fan/pad thing (can't think of what it's called). I don't know about you, but I like smaller laptops and I have small hands so typing isn't a problem. The tablet's 12.1" which saves you a good 2 pounds, which does make a difference if you add in the weight of all your textbooks and stuff when you're walking around campus. The one big con I see to the HP though is that it's only 6 cell and has a low battery life... if you can, try to upgrade the battery.

Those are two completely different laptops. It's like asking if you should get an apple or an orange.

I suggest checking out forums.notebookreview.com for laptop questions.

Remember that it often takes just as long to do a search or two on Google to try and find the answer to your question as it takes to type it in a post here, let alone the time waiting for a reply.
If your question is "What mark does it take to get into University X", or "What are the requirements to get into University X", it's on their website and/or electronicinfo.ca (for Ontario schools). Particularly for Ontario schools, those ranges are a pretty good picture of what kind of mark will get you into the program, and if you're more than a couple percent higher it's practically guaranteed unless it requires a supplementary form.

You don't need a tablet unless you're a very special case. Tablets are (for most) a waste of money, as well as weight, and quality of other components.

On the other hand, sony's are overpriced and break easily.

Check out lenovo (realllly solid), or dell (might have problems here or there, but they'll fix it whatever it is in 5-7 days). Dell especially will give you the best components for the price.

This really isn't a valid argument between the two but I bought the Vaio because I really wanted a pink computer XD

Is it really true that Sony breaks easily? I'm really frightened. >_<

Well sony is a little finicky. They're built to look great etc, but often (I find) sony products lack durability. The problem comes when, coupled with that, their warranty's have more holes than swiss cheese.

However, if you aren't unlucky, and you;re careful (as you should be even if ur laptop was made by the army) you should be fine. They're great comps.

The HP tablet is such a rip off. It will also overheat quickly, so it's not an ideal laptop to be on your laptop for a long time. However, if you want a this tablet, I suggest for you to buy it from Futureshop because it's like $100 cheaper.

Or you could buy the same tablet, but it has a better processor. I wouldn't really recommend spending $100 for a 0.1GHz difference since you won't notice anything anyway.

Why would you want to carry a 15.4" laptop? If you're just leaving this laptop in your dorm or whatever... just get a desktop (more powerful) or if you have one already, bring it with you!

Here's a decent and 'cheap' laptop:
http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0926INGFS10107931&catid=20354
Battery life will probably last for 3 hours max
It's heavier than the standard 14.1" laptop, but it is lighter than the standard 15.4" laptop
This laptop is sufficient for Microsoft Office, CAD, etc. as long as the program doesn't need more than 128MB video memory

I don't really suggest to get a Macbook because it's like a brick. It's probably the heaviest 13.3" laptop out there because it's about 5 pounds. The weight of a standard 14.1" laptop, so might as well get a bigger screen.

Here's another decent and 'cheap' laptop:
http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10107589&catid=
This laptop has a similar configuration compared to the Gateway, but it is lighter.

Oh, I think sometime on late August or early September, laptops that are expensive right now will probably drop a maximum of $300 or so since there are newer laptops released and/or being released (new processors). And I don't really recommend buying these newer laptops because you can't even tell the difference. The only good side about them is longer battery life, which isn't a lot though. Battery life can last like 30 mins more or something like that, which is insignificant change to me - not worth spending money over. But... some of these laptops are lighter than the laptops out there right now...

By the way, never ever get additional warranty from Futureshop or Best Buy. These big box companies will rip you off. It has happened and will continue to happen. Another thing, there's no such thing as the best customer service... it really depends on the sales person you talk to or whatever...

Oh and laptops don't really break easily. It depends on the user and also the manufacturer of the laptop components such as HDD, DVD/CD drive, RAM, etc.

Wow Confuzzled, that was a very detailed reply. Those 2 other laptop you suggested are good and I might consider it. However, I'll most likely use it to take notes in class and for engineering, aren't there going to be equations and such? The tablet will let me write on it using programs like OneNote, but is this a big deal? I guess this is my main concern.

If you for sure want to take notes on a laptop then tablet would be the way to go. But from what I've heard, even people with tablets prefer to take math notes with pen and paper. Also it seems the battery life on the tablet doesn't last a full day of classes(depending on the day), so either you sit in a corner to plug it in, or you take the last couple lectures' notes on paper. One more point about the HP tablet; careful with the screen as I know someone who turned it the wrong way and pretty much ripped it off.

The HP is very portable(12.1") vs. the Sony which is borderline-portable(15.4")

Other than that, they're both fast machines, not too much difference there, but the Core2 on the Sony performs better than the QL-60 on the HP(not a big difference for the most part).

Check out some dells(xps), lenovos, toshibas too.

Unless you're the kind of person who REALLY likes to have their notes on the computer, I would just take them by hand. I just finished first year engineering at the U of A and hardly anyone used their laptops to take notes. It's simply too difficult to do it that way.

Dont use your laptop unless your really really fast at typing and have some magical tool that lets you write equations in 4 seconds. I know people who can do it, im one of them but i dont anyways lol...look into LaTex if your you fall into this category and are that serious about taking sciency notes on your laptop...if not just write stuff down... if for some reason its messy, go home and rewrite it...

Actually, I'd recommend always getting the warranty, depending on whether you're going to be carrying the laptop around or anything at all. Make sure you ask about the details of the package, but like for an mp3, you can always switch mp3s near the end of however long the plan is, just because the battery is almost guaranteed to start draining quicker. anyways, the manufacturer's warantee doesnt' cover most problems.

Have been looking at this laptop...

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10108832&catid=

can some tech expert tell me that how long is it going to last and if I need to buy futureshop in-store warranties for 2 year to get maximum out of what I pay for it.

Any pros and Cons of Particular model

When is best time to get it, like very late August...

GOt enough $$$ to buy it, and why should I buy a cheaper one when I can have best one out there.

Last thing how do I buy dell or toshiba online from their webstie when my credit card limit is only $500 and that is only way to pay them using credit card.
The laptop i want to buy is like from Toshiba or Dell or Alienware and my credit limit does nto allow me to do so.
