Firstly, let me say that it would have been EXTREMELY easy for you to just search it yourself instead of creating a thread. These are the type of "useless" threads that a lot of people are tired of. I'm not trying to insult you by any means, god knows I've created at least one thread similar to this one.

Since I do have the information, I am happy to share it with you.

The last day to drop section S courses without academic penalty is March 8.

The last day to drop section S courses without financial penalty is January 4 (for Woodsworth).

You make a good point, but the forum is there so that you can get quick (or not LOL razz) information without having to have the hassle of finding it. If they were to just look up previous threads: firstly studentawards needs to fix the "search" method, becasue in most cases it gives out useless information. Secondly, ask questions, get them answered: this is a forum, not a FAQ.

but i dunno, i guess many people feel the same way as you, but in the grand scheme of things, for a non-busy forum i wouldnt mind repeated questions.

Yeah, I'll concede right now that creating threads is not a deadly sin nor a punishable crime... smile

The only reason I am "frustrated" with these types of threads is that the information is already readily available to the poster. Not just in previous threads, but on the Internet... and most of the times, the answer is relatively easy to find. For example, just search "u of t important dates" or "u of t drop schedule" in google, and the answer to this question is in one of the very first links. Also, I believe it was in our registration handbook & timetable. But yes, sometimes it's a hassle to go through a thick book like the handbook in search for an answer to ONE question. But that's what the Internet is for, and I think it would have taken the poster less time to search it on Google than to start a new thread.

When a person has exhausted the basic search tools (ie. google, school website, school documents, past threads, etc.) which are quickly accessible, then I have no problem with him/her asking their question in a thread. But as we have seen, many people decide to bypass those steps... this thread being a perfect example. (Again, not trying to put anyone down, I am guilty of it myself)

Yeah most universities have a calendar with important dates on their website.

Can someone please confirm that the "Last day to ADD a section S course" without penalty is before January 09 for the 08-09 year.

Bimmer- I took your advice. http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=%22u+of+t+important+dates%22&btnG=Google+Search&meta=

UofT2011 - How was your first year at U of T? I was originally planning to go into engineering.

The experience itself was amazing. University by itself is a whole different world. With regards to academic life, first term was brutal. Second term was also hard, but i got used to it, and i had a different approach/strategy to studying. Best thing about university is that instead of learning you teach youself how to learn. What program are you in right now? and what made you choose that over engineering?

Besides Statics and Dynamics, I found all of the first year engineering courses interesting.

I am in life sciences. I found the schedule for engineering too rigid. life sci gives me the flexibility I am looking for so I can explore options in biology and chemistry but physics is still my favourite subject.

Hmm...that's weird. When I search it (http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=u+of+t+important+dates&btnG=Search&meta=), this is the first link:

http://www.students.utoronto.ca/The_Basics/Important_Dates.htm

Just click on the arts & science link and it has all the important dates related to a&s students. The last day to enroll in section "S" courses is January 18, 2009.

I know you're joking, but...

I've already explained that questions should be asked if simple measures were taken to discover the answer for yourself. And besides, there are plenty of questions that require opinionated answers/advice etc. rather than simple facts like this one. So the forum will live on even if these types of questions cease to exist.

Google is your friend... thumright

nice smile Good Luck in the school year!

-One last thing, there's this HMB303H that has no prereqs. It's a lvl.300 course. Would it be possible for me to do it in first year? or would it be far too difficult?

Thanks

I don't think it would necessarily be too difficult. I'm not sure what the rules are for taking upper year courses in first year though... If there even are any. Check the anti-calendar to see what people thought of the course difficulty and Prof.
