I need some major help in decision making...
I got accepted to Queen's, Ottawa, and U of T.
Initially my first choice was U of T because it's prestigious and since i want to go into medicine, I thought U of T would be great.
but now that I did some research, I found out that it is the hardest university to get a good mark in because there's sooo much competition. I heard that one person who had a 98 average in high school, went into life science U of T and got an average of C and he didn't slack off... this is sadly a true story...
so some said it'd be better to go to a bit less competitious school and get a higher mark, then go to medical school at U of T.
That's why now I'm thinking of Queen's as one of my top choices. I applied to general science at Queen's..
I recently visited Kingston and I must say I did not like the area very much... it was very small and there was not even one big shopping mall...frown
however, it looked like it would be a great place to study. I know that Queen's is a hard school as well, but I think it would be a little bit easier than U of T to get a better mark since there are less people...

I have to go to rez whether I go to Queen's or U of T so the cost would be the same..
If I go to U of T, I'm going into new college, which I have visited. The rooms weren't great and there is only a small chance I would get a single room...but overall new college seemed to be very convenient for students.
For Queen's I did not choose which rez building to go to... if there's anyone out there going to Queen's, if you could recommend a rez, I would really appreciate it... somewhere that's close to science building, preferably and the one that offer single rooms.

*sigh* so here's the dilemma... I can not choose which university to go to...
Queen's vs U of T... general science for queen's and life science for U of T...
Queen's is offering me $10,000 whereas U of T is only offering me $3000...
Can someone help me make my decision??? T.T

I've heard Queen's is also quite difficult. However, you should also keep in mind that U of T medical school is quite competitive and difficult.

I'd say go with the school that's offering the higher scholarship. They're both pretty prestigious.

Is the 10,000 over 4 years? That's 2500/year.
Is the 3000 renewable? Because if it is, that would be 12,000 over 4 years and that is pretty sweet.

And at what school did your friend get 98%? I can tell you that most students who get 98% on their own merit at any public school in York region (and there aren't that many) would not end up getting an average of C+ at any university. Now, there are always exceptions...

Hmm, so money-wise it's a white marble for Queens, I guess (in the long run).
And UofT might be a little bit more competitive; not as bad as some might say, though.
Unless you feel a strong, unexplainable attraction to either of the two, write down all the pros and cons on a piece of paper and see what develops.

Posted from another topic:

There are three main types of rooms at Queen's:
Single
Single w/ shared bath (Watts, Legget)
Double

(They used to have triples with the double cohort, I don't think they do any more)

There are also a couple layouts:
Co-ed (mixed on the floor, but double rooms only have guys OR girls) (Leonard, Gordon, Brock, Vic Hall, Waldron Tower, West Campus, Harkness, Watts, and Legget)
Guy's-floor (I believe only in Leonard but I am unsure)
Girls-only (Addy-Ban Righ, Chown)

There are specialty floors (I am unsure if they change yearly):
Engineering
Commerce
Wellness
Etc.

There are two cafeterias, if you live in Leonard (or Gord-Brock), you have a cafeteria attached to your rez, same with Addy-Ban Righ, and there is one cafeteria on West Campus as well.

The farthest residences away from a cafeteria on main campus are Harkness (usually International/Upper Year) and Waldron Tower. The ones closest (other than those attached) are Vic Hall and Chown.

Watts is an upper year residence, and it is new with shared baths between rooms. Legget is the same style and since I checked last, they offer upper year floors, but they also have first years. These rooms are very nice, but not huge. They come with extra long (double?) beds. Very clean residence with common rooms on each floor. You must keep your key with you to get to your floor through the stair well, and I think you need your key to use the elevator as well. Most people want to live in these residences.

Addy-Ban Righ and Chown are all girls. They are across from Legget on Stuart St. I lived in a double in Chown (my last choice). Sometimes, if you are lucky, you will get a huge room (I got one with my room mate, it was converted from a common room/office into a room). I had a couple friends on my floor (we were ground floor) that had washrooms in their rooms, or a single person living in a double. You do not know if you will get one of these, it is totally random. Both Addy-Ban Righ and Chown have a mix of single and double rooms. On all floors except ground, they have private showers and washrooms on each floor (not per person, but 5 or 6 on a floor). On the ground floor we had shared bathrooms and shower stalls. You got used to it. Quiet residences, but you get to know your floor pretty well. I got tired of it by the end of the school year but it was not terrible.

Leonard-Gordon-Brock is popular, there is a nice big field used for soccer and frisbee, and it is across from the lake. Plus not having to go outside in the winter to have a meal is great. The double rooms in Leonard (didn't see rooms in Gordon-Brock but they are the same I think) have a divider that you can pull down the middle of the room and it turns it into a single. The rooms are not that big, more long than wide. But not too shabby. The Wellness floor is in Leonard, as well as the all-men's floor. Private bathrooms (X# per floor).

Victoria Hall is the largest residence on campus (both main and west), six floors, wings A - E, mix of double and singles. Rooms are small, ugly furniture (Chown and Addy-Ban Righ have ugly stuff too, dated). It can be loud because of so many people, but my friends who lived there loved it, definitely had lots of stuff to do all the time. Can have like seven fire alarms in a night though. I make it sound bad, but it really seemed like a fun residence. Plus there is a TD ATM, and the Lazy Scholar (serves pizza, hamburgers, sandwiches, has a pool table, foosball table, and TVs). I believe there are private bathrooms (X# per floor).

Waldron Tower is about a ten minute walk from the Ban-Righ cafeteria. They have sinks in their rooms, but have shared bathrooms. I am not sure about room size but I knew a couple people there and they really liked the sinks.

Harkness is about a ten-twelve minute walk from Ban-Righ cafeteria, it is north of Union St. and about a block from the campus library. Not sure about room size, but most residents are upper-year international students. Shared bathrooms (X# per floor).

I am not sure about West, there is about a ten-twelve minute bus ride (free) to campus. But supposedly everyone develops a drinking problem out there. Haha.
