Thats true, if you're a 9/10...you can get away with a slightly less impressive resume.

Your grades are entirely unimportant for non academic jobs... You think an insurance company or marketing firm gives a crap about what your GPA is? What really matters are your connections, experience, how well you convince interviewers that you are what they want (PERSONALITY) and your tangible accomplishments. What I mean by that are things like portfolios, work projects, even relevant personal projects. GPA is just a number that shows you know how to play the university game; Just because you can succeed in school doesn't mean you will be able to succeed in the job market, and the people doing the hiring know this.

Marks help you land the interview. Some companies will not look at your application unless you have hit a certain average.

I'm a co-op student and I can confirm that the vast majority of employers will only care about personality. Grades is only important for about 5 percent of co-op jobs out there. If you don't believe me, then here's some statistics. In a class of about 110 Electrical Engineers at UW, only 25 students have above 80 average. The employment rate is above 80 percent. That means a lot of employers do hire a ton of students with averages below 80 percent. In addition, there are a few students of the top 25 who have not been able to get a job (whom I know personally). That means, some employers probably chose that 60 avg student over the 80+ average student.

The above information was deducted from official employment statistics made public by UW. I was able to determine that only 25 students had above 80 average because UW does ranking and I'm ranked 25 with the low 80 average.

You don't have to believe me if you don't want to. I could provide screenshot proof but I'm not going to waste time doing that. I can also add one important detail about the personality aspect. The number one thing employers look for within the personality category is if you can prove you're a fast learner and willing to learn. The reason why employers don't care about grades is because you will most likely not be applying your university education to thier job place. You have to be trained. I work at a telecommunications company and the things they do here are very rarely touched by your degree.

Definitely. Most employers take recomendations from employees in their company to fill up any potential positions. They provide awards to thier employees if anyone they recomend ends up being hired.
