wow.. This question for the 939475634895th time. Grade 11 only matter for early admission and some scholarships. Thats all. Grade 12 marks count for admissions and scholarships.
Believe the person you spoke with at UBC. School counsellors are idiots in my opinion.

Although, those are excellent grades. They will not be able to earn you early admission as well as top entrance scholarships at either university. You should maintain your math mark. However, if you are considering the Sciences you'd want your Physics and Biology to be above 90%. If you can, get an A for English. Furthermore, UBC Engineering requires Chemistry 12, so it's also something to consider. Yet, for SFU/UBC all they look at are usually English, Math, and 2 other required courses (depending on faculty). Therefore, you can easily slack off at your other courses to save time to do homework for your required courses. SFU Admission Guarantee & ScholarshipsUBC Engineering RequirementsUBC Advanced Placement (AP) CreditsIt might be too late now that you've probably completed course-selection, but it would be an excellent idea to take as many AP Exams as possible. One exam will give you enough credits for a single course at UBC/SFU! It's an excellent time saver. For example, I'm probably going to UBC Commerce this fall and with my AP Microeconomics and AP Macroeconomics credits, I can take a couple 300-level ECON courses which I'd use for elective credits as well as getting a minor in Economics. Good luck next year.

What universities does early admissions and what course specifically is bringing down the chance for early admission?

Don’t worry if you don’t get your acceptance early… less than 10% of the graduating class does! Remember, it varies from program to program. If you're applying to a moderately/not very competitive program, It's easy to get an early consideration. However, even with an amazing average, sometimes it can take as long as May to be considered for a competitive one. Engineering can be one of the more competitive ones (depending on the university you apply to) and so can Science, again depending on your university. Criminology usually isn't. Your average comes around to an 85% which is enough to get an entrance scholarship in a lot of universities. The higher your average is though, the higher your amount of scholarship money. Don't worry about that however, just focus on doing your best. Environmental Studies & Resource Management, Earth Science University of Waterloo '11

I am either wanting to apply for Criminology, Science or Engineering at either UBC or SFU. In general are those grades something I should worry about?
How did you get a 97 in 11th grade math? You must be a genius.

Math was kind of in my blood. At the age of 6-7 I knew multiplication and division all by memorization. Math courses always felt natural to me despite how crappy the teacher was.

A question I have is when I called the UBC admission administration they said they dont look at grade 11 marks...
But my counsellor at high school and students says otherwise... Who should I believe?
When would grade 11 GPA matter? Sometimes they do want to see a certain grade 11 course completed with a specific mark as a requirement for entry. But by that I mean they want 60, 65, 70% or something. If your grade 11 marks are 80's you are absolutely fine for entry to most programs, and for those that are competitive you will be fine with 90's in grade 12.

How did you get a 97 in 11th grade math? You must be a genius. Are you kidding? Grade 11 math was the biggest joke of a class I've ever had. Easiest 97 for me ever... and I didn't even show up for the last two and a half weeks. Once the Finance unit was over, I was out. And this is Alberta Pure 20... where its supposed to be 'hard'. High school math in general is really easy. Calculus is getting slightly more difficult, but Alberta math 10, 20 and 30 are super easy.

Okay yeah I was one of those kids that got made fun of in grade one because I didn't know my multiplications well. But hey, I still don't think anybody has bragging rights about multiplication skills at that age. electricpearls, Math 20 Pure killed me slowly. Of course, I don't go to class but still... Math 30 is easier actually. But Calculus is the most fun. UWO 2012
