Ok, so here's my situation.

My final mark in advanced functions was an 80. The reason it was so low was only because of one test I wrote (14%). My teacher said if I did well on the exam he's be able to omit the test from my mark. So I studied my arse off for 5 days straight and still managed to do much worse than anticipated on the exam, getting a 86%. So my teacher decides instead of omitting the test, he just gives me an extra percent on my final mark (thanks a lot!). worry

So I'm trying to decided whether I should retake the course in my grade 12 year. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, but I want to go to computer engineering at waterloo. They say "individual selection from mid 80s" will get in. I understand though that If I retake the course, they will subtract 1% from my admission average which would be equivalent to 6% from my course mark.

I'm thinking I should retake it in my grade 12 year, but I'm not too sure how much i can bring up that mark....

Just do well in your other courses and you'll be fine. You can easily achieve a mid 80s average with an 80% on your transcript.

So I went back and talked with my teacher a bit, and he was able to change my mark to an 86% big grinbig grinbig grinbig grinbig grinbig grinbig grin!

Lesson to be learned here:

Always go back and negotiate until you get what you want.

That didn't take long. You must really live close to your school.

Going back to talk to your teacher was what I was going to suggest. Good for you and now you can have a peaceful summer.

Teachers have to be careful about changing their minds about what they said in the first place. You did fine on the exam and he should omit that test. It should be as simple as that.

I hate people those chronic mark-beggars. My class was littered with spoiled kids who would moan and groan until the weak teachers thought it was either they had to give a higher mark, or shoot themselves.

Try begging for more marks all the time and see what'll happen later in life. 5 years from now your boss is not going to give you a raise just to shut you up.
